"We are conducting a thorough review of the incident, and the activity in question has been suspended," the museum said in a statement.

A 4-year-old boy reportedly suffered severe burns while visiting a children's museum with his family in Oklahoma over the weekend.

The incident occurred at the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum in Seminole on the afternoon of Saturday, June 21, CBS affiliate KWTV, NBC affiliate KFOR and ABC affiliate KOCO reported.

The museum's executive director said that the incident occurred during an activity involving an indoor s'mores maker, which had been purchased for a summer celebration that day, according to KOCO.

Makala Pevehouse, a close friend of the victim's family, per KWTV claimed that the boy was given a s'more by his mom before an explosion occurred, which reportedly involved a grill and hand sanitizer.

"And at first, you just see, like...big flames. And then I looked down and the little boy's on the floor, like, flopping around, trying to put himself out," claimed Daycee Phillips, another close family friend who witnessed the incident.

Pevehouse claimed that the boy, identified as Ryker Corona, was engulfed in flames, while Phillips said parents at the scene doused him with water to try and put the fire out.

Firefighters responded to the scene about noon local time per KOCO.

Pevehouse also said that Ryker was airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital and sustained second-degree burns on his chest, face and arms.

In a statement shared on its Facebook account, the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum addressed the "unfortunate" incident, saying that it occurred during a "hands-on activity."

"First aid was administered immediately by trained staff, and emergency services were contacted," they continued. "The safety and well-being of every child and family who visits our museum is our highest priority. We are conducting a thorough review of the incident, and the activity in question has been suspended while we evaluate and revise safety protocols to prevent any future occurrences."
"We appreciate the swift response of our staff and emergency personnel, and we are committed to learning from the situation to continue providing a safe, fun, and enriching environment for all children," the museum further said.

A GoFundMe has been established to help the boy's family.
