Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has become a much-loved favourite since first launching on our screens 27 years ago.

To walk away with the full jackpot, contestants must answer 15 consecutive, multiple choice general knowledge questions in order to walk away with the life-changing jackpot.

This is no easy feat - with players given 'lifelines' - Phone A Friend, 50/50, Ask the Audience and more recently, Ask the Host, to help once when needed.

Across both Chris Tarrant and Jeremy Clarkson's time as host, only six people have legitimately won the top prize.

They are Judith Keppel, David Edwards, Robert Brydges, Pat Gibson, Ingram Wilcox and Donald Fear.

A seventh contestant, Major Charles Ingram, also correctly answered the £1m question.

In 2000, Judith Keppel became the first person to win the £1million prize on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and she later became part of the TV show Eggheads

Fellow future Egghead Pat Gibson was the fourth legitimate Millionaire winner (pictured with original host Chris Tarrant)

Former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson (pictured) took over Millionaire hosting duties in 2018

However, he was later found to have cheated in the show's now-infamous coughing scandal.
