Anne Hathaway has offered clarity on the 'young diva' rumours that plagued her in her early career, confessing she is not a perfect person.
The Devil Wears Prada actress, 43, admitted that when she was starting out in Hollywood, she had to be 'armoured' in order to protect herself.
In an interview with Vogue Australia to promote her latest release, The Devil Wears Prada 2, she admitted that she was frightened to be her true 'sweet' self.
She said: 'And the truth is -- the genuine truth is -- I'm not a perfect person by any stretch of the imagination.'
'But one thing, I'm a sweet person, and I think for many, many years it really frightened me to be a young, sweet woman, so I think I armoured and hardened to try to protect myself.'
'Various things have happened to me in my life, challenges I've met that I'm proud of.'
Anne Hathaway, 43, has offered clarity on her 'young diva' rumours as she confessed she is not a perfect person and had to be 'armoured' to protect herself when she was a 22-year-old.
In an interview with Vogue Australia to promote her latest release, The Devil Wears Prada 2, she admitted that she was frightened to be her true 'sweet' self.
She went on to explain that she no longer feels the need for this armour to protect herself.
For her interview with Vogue, Anne looked incredible as she slipped into a figure-hugging red dress layered over a pair of red tights.
In another glamorous snap, the brunette beauty can be seen wrapped in a large red fur shawl as she poses in a black dress.
Anne suffered many claims of 'Diva' behaviour when she first started out, as she once sent her breakfast of eggs and an English muffin back four times because it wasn't exactly how she wanted it.
The Les Misérables Oscar winner ordered a poached egg with an English muffin and avocado while on the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood back in 2015, according to TMZ reports at the time.
However, when her breakfast arrived, Anne decided that the egg was too runny and sent it back.
When it arrived a second time, the muffin was cold. The third time, the muffin was warm, but the egg was cold.
The catering staff finally got it just right, and the fourth time the poached egg, muffin and slices of avocado were spot on.
She said: 'And the truth is -- the genuine truth is -- I'm not a perfect person by any stretch of the imagination'
However, by this time the actress had changed her mind and wanted a fried egg, not a poached one.
Meanwhile, in 2008, while promoting the film Rachel Getting Married in Toronto, OK! magazine claimed the star delayed press interviews until she got the right kind of breakfast.
'Anne requested lattes but only ones with soy milk so she made a guy go out and bring back five soy lattes for her and her crew,' a source told the magazine.
'Then she requested scrambled eggs since she didn't like the breakfast available,' the source added.
'The same guy had to go to a restaurant next door and ask for the eggs. It took 45 minutes, and then she barely even touched them!'
In October 2013, reps for the actress were forced to deny published reports that she had demanded no-one 'talk to her' while hosting a charity fundraiser.
A source told In Touch Weekly that her team had a long list of demands about how she should be treated at the Pink Party Gala, including that everyone should 'respect her space.'
But the star's publicist Stephen Huvane told the Daily Mail at the time that the claims were '100 per cent false.'
'We never made any such requests, and Anne happily interacted with the organisers and guests at the event,' Stephen stated.
Anne has officially returned as Andy Sachs in the highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is set to premiere in theatres on 1 May 2026.
She has recently attended various world premieres of the film, including events in New York City and London.
Nearly 20 years after the original, the story follows Andy as she returns to Runway magazine as a features editor.
She reunites with Miranda Priestly, who is nearing retirement and facing off against her former assistant-turned-rival, Emily Charlton.
