Anne Hathaway revealed Taylor Swift's influence over her new film Mother Mary as well as the 'magical' thing the singer did for her.
The 43-year-old actress, who has also been busy promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2, opened up about the topic during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday.
At one point, the talk show host showed a scene from the upcoming psychological thriller as Hathaway performed a pop song on stage for a cheering crowd.
'I understand... you mention Taylor Swift,' Colbert told the star. 'But how did she influence this?'
Hathaway replied, 'I mean, she was kind of like an angel that I felt like was over our heads all the time.'
She went on to explain that the director David Lowry was a big fan of the Grammy winner and had taken inspiration from Swift's Reputation tour for the movie.
'And I was influenced by her tour film Miss Americana and how vulnerable she just let herself be,' Hathaway added.
The actress said that it could be 'so painful' before noting the difficulty of being a public person 'trying to figure things out in the spotlight.'
The Princess Diaries star further gushed, 'I was already a fan but after that I had so much empathy for her and her humanity and of course her talent.'
Hathaway then recalled a special moment she had with the Bad Blood hitmaker amid her Eras Tour.
She had been filming Mother Mary in Germany and Swift's tour stop in the country coincided with when she was also there.
The actress said the performer 'makes the audience feel so loved and she made me feel so loved. And I'm like, "Oh my God, Annie, you're so cute. You think Taylor Swift is waving at you. You are so adorable."'
And the experience became even more memorable for Hathaway when she was given a note from Swift herself.
'Somebody tapped me on the shoulder and they said Taylor wants you to have this and I went, what is happening?'
The actress continued, 'It was a note where Taylor said, "I’m so happy you’re here, I’m going to be enthusiastically waving at you."
'I was like, "Oh my God! She is so magical! She did the thing. I was right, I am special,"' she jokingly added.
Mother Mary is set to hit theaters on April 17 and also stars Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Atheena Frizzell, Jessica Brown Findlay, FKA Twigs and Alba Baptista.

Hathaway also discussed how she had reached out to singer Charli XCX in regards t her leading role in the movie.
Original songs by Charlie XCX as well as FKA Twigs and Jack Antonoff are featured in the psychological drama.
'The person that I spoke to was Charli... I wanted to talk to her about the music, she wrote such amazing music that I was going to perform,' the actress recently told People.
