A routine request aboard NASA's Artemis II mission has sparked an unexpected viral moment on TikTok, after astronaut Christina Koch was heard asking for a specific item: Honest brand hand lotion.

The viral clip, shared by Jessica Alba -- the founder of The Honest Company -- has scored more than 1.3 million views within 18 hours as the actress-turned-entrepreneur reacted in disbelief to hearing her product mentioned in space.

In the video, Koch can be heard saying, "I'm looking for a specific community hygiene item that is Honest lotion," adding that while she believed some was onboard, "we just haven't come across it yet."

Reflecting on the moment, she said she had once simply wanted to create "safer, better products," inspired by her daughter, and now found it surreal that those same products could be used in space.

The video's caption described the moment as, "something out of my wildest dreams."

The exchange shines light on the highly controlled nature of space travel logistics. According to NASA, food and personal care items for Artemis II must be carefully selected in advance, as the spacecraft has no refrigeration or resupply capability.

Items must be shelf-stable, compact and safe to use in microgravity, with crew preferences considered well before launch, especially when even small comfort items like lotion can become notable when absent.

"The Artemis II crew has direct input into menu selection," NASA shared.
"Crew members sample, evaluate and rate all foods on the standard menu during preflight testing, and their preferences are balanced with nutritional requirements and what Orion can accommodate."

Former NASA astronaut Terry Virts, who spent more than seven months in space, described how personal choices factor into mission packing, revealing to Forbes that astronauts are not confined to traditional space food assumptions, though.

Back on Earth, viewers related to Koch, with many connecting to the astronaut's request for everyday experiences.

Another added of the Honest line of products, "Astronaut approved is all I needed to know."

Someone noted the promotional opportunities the exchange has prompted: "The marketing team can now say, 'It's honestly, out of this world'."

The Honest Company also responded in its own TikTok post, telling Koch: "we've got you stocked the second you land."

While the Artemis II mission represents a major step in NASA's return to crewed lunar exploration, the moment offered a glimpse into the human side of spaceflight -- where even in a tightly controlled environment, small comforts like hand lotion can take on outsized importance.
