A British man used a metal post to smash check-in desks to pieces during an airport rampage in Hong Kong before he was arrested for possessing Viagra.

The raging tourist, 35, damaged around 10 check-in kiosks, nearby counters and railings during his fiery tantrum at the airport's Terminal 1 at around 6am local time on Monday.

The man, who arrived in Hong Kong in November and was intending to buy a ticket to leave, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and for possessing four Viagra pills.

Footage shows the vandal, wearing blue jeans, a black jumper and a black man bag, shoving kiosks to the floor in front of shocked travellers.

He continues his rage, picking up a metal pole and repeatedly smashing it into the check-in screens before walking away with it in hand.

The man used his trolly to knock down railings before attacking the desks and damaging a glass panel, according to local media. It is unknown what sparked the episode.

'Airport Authority staff and airport security personnel rushed to the scene and warned the man to stop causing further damage,' a spokesperson for the authority said.
'Police have arrested the man and launched an investigation.'

The Brit was arrested by police who confirmed that he was also illegally possessing four Viagra pills.

Police confirmed he was a 35-year-old British tourist and he was arrested for criminal damage and posession of 'part one' poisons.

Four Viagra pills, which are illegal to possesss in Hong Kong without a prescription, were found in his suitcase.

Those possessing the impotence drug can face up to two years in jail and a £9,400 fine.

The man was arrested at the bus unloading area at the airport.

The incident is similar to another airport rage which forced tourists to flee screaming from a blaze at Milan's Malpensa airport after a man set fire to bins and smashed check-in screens.

The man was apprehended by employees at Terminal 1 after reportedly rampaging through the airport with a hammer.

Footage from the airport showed black smoke billowing from inside the terminal as passengers ran from the scene.

Images showed a suspect being pinned to the ground. Local media reported he had been stopped by staff.

Italian outlet Varese News said an employee intervened after noticing smoke rising through the airport.

The suspect was allegedly 'destroying the screens between desks 12 and 13' when the member of staff dived in.

The 35-year-old stormed off after unleashing chaos on Hong Kong Airport early on Monday morning.

The vandal, wearing blue jeans, a black jumper and a black man bag, shoved kiosks to the floor in front of shocked travellers.

Witness Sophia Kim, a passenger who was at desk 13 at the time, said: 'I turned around only to see the check-in counter on the other side was on fire.'
'It was then I started running for my life with my husband hand in hand,' she added.
'Everyone around me was in panic mode- screaming and running. I thought I was going to die.'

The suspect was identified across Italian media only as a Malian resident of Italy in his late 20s with no criminal record.

He did not have a boarding pass and was not a passenger.
