She's an advocate for sustainable fashion, and Cate Blanchett ensured she was leading by example from the off at this year's Venice Film Festival by recycling one of her best looks.

The actress, 56, attended the opening ceremony on Wednesday in a jaw-dropping plunging black gown that had all eyes on her.

The figure-hugging dress boasted a very risqué neckline embellished with large stones to draw attention to her décolletage and tiny waist.

And it marked the second time that Cate stole the show on the red carpet in the daring Armani number, after first wearing the gown to the 2022 SAG Awards.

The Oscar winner is known for her sustainable approach to red carpet fashion, frequently recycling some of her favourite looks.

In January, she attended this year's Golden Globes in the exact same gold gown she has previously worn to the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of her film Rumours.

But giving the dress some extra embellishment for its second outing, Cate added more sparkles and jewels to the glitzy bodice.

Last year, she revisited a one-shouldered floral dress from Givenchy at the Toronto Film Festival, which she has previously worn at the British Academy Britannia Awards in 2018.

At the 2023 BAFTAs, she opted to wear the Maison Margiela gown she had first sported to the 2015 Oscars, but swapped her necklace for an elegant pearl one from Louis Vuitton.

The same year saw her revisit her colourful tiered gown from the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, for the premiere of TAR at Berlin Film Festival.

While Cate has not only recycled the same outfits, but also updated and reworked them to create new fashion forward looks.

After sending pulses racing in a revealing gown made up of strings of diamonds to the Goya Awards in 2022, she then wore just the sparkling bodice with black trousers at last year's Venice Film Festival.

Last year she also brought back an Armani Privé gown that she'd worn to the 2018 Venice Film Festival, but this time as a jumpsuit for the 2024 AACTA Awards.

And the star wore the satin draped blouse that she'd stunned in at the 2023 Oscars to Louis Vuitton's autumn/winter 2024 show, but switched out the elegant maxi skirt for with an edgy pair of black leather trousers.

And in 2023, she went even further - first by upcycling lace from her 2014 Golden Globes dress to create a new sequin gown for the SAG Awards, and then switching the lace for a harlequin patterned panel at the Fragrance Foundation Awards, four months later.

While five years ago, the A-lister made a statement at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, by attending a slew of events in previously worn ensembles.

She dazzled in a navy blue Esteban Cortazar gown as she presented Tilda Swinton with the Golden Lion award at the opening ceremony, after previously turning heads in the shimmering dress for the 2015 London premiere of Carol.

Cate then stepped out in an intricate floral top teamed with fitted black trousers for the Lovers premiere - which had been reworked from an Alexander McQueen dress that she'd worn to the BAFTA Awards back in 2016.

The Blue Jasmine star also opted to rewear the same pair of chic white trousers multiple times during that year's festival.

She was also spotted in a blue tie-dyed jumpsuit by Triple RRR, which she'd previously worn during the 2019 press junket for Where'd You Go, Bernadette.

The Australian film star also recycled an Acne Studios embroidered tuxedo she'd worn to the Rome Film Festival in 2018, swapping the white shirt for a black one.

Cate's longtime stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, has insisted 'it's chic to repeat', previously explaining the actress had made a conscious decision to rewear some of her past outfits.

In an Instagram post in 2020, she wrote: 'IT'S CHIC TO REPEAT! #CateBlanchett has decided to rewear some of her most cherished looks at this year's Venice Film Festival... In her words, Beautiful things can come out of sustainability!'

She later said the actress was 'committed to a sustainable red carpet' and was doing this by 're-working past iconic looks', before auctioning them off for charity.

While Cate has spoken about how important it is for her to be mindful with her fashion choices in an interview with WWD.

She said: 'We've seen over the last decade it used to be seasonal, now it's trans-seasonal, multiseasonal, and brands are designing for outlet stores.'

'When you know the world is consuming 18 billion pieces of clothing a year, which is up 400 percent from a decade ago, you think: this is not working.'

'I do think most [fashion] houses are engaged in the idea of sustainability, but it's how do we turn our business model around. That can't be done in 24 hours, but it must be done.'

She added that she's talked with a number of designers 'about how we could do some sort of collection together that celebrates recycling and repurposing fabrics.'
