Hollywood stars have shared tributes to social media after two gunman killed at least 16 people at Bondi Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The deadly attack at Australia's most iconic tourist destination unfolded as hundreds gathered to attend the Chanukah by the Sea event, making the first day of Hanukkah.

Two heavily armed men, allegedly Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, stood on a pedestrian footbridge and opened fire with military-grade weapons into the crowds of locals, holidaymakers and families.

Oprah Winfrey, who recently visited Australia, shared her heartbreak to Instagram following the terror attack.

'I just spent the last two weeks in Australia, walking Bondi just days ago feeling the openness and ease that lives there,' the talk show veteran wrote.
'It's hard to reconcile that sense of peace with the terror of last night. My heart breaks for the victims, their families and the loved ones, and all you Aussies.'

Aussie actress Rebel Wilson also shared a tribute to the victims: 'Just waking up to the news about what's happened on Bondi Beach.

'An absolute tragedy that is the most un-Australian thing to have happen. We shouldn't have gun violence in Australia, we shouldn't have antisemitism - it's not us! Thinking of everyone affected by this devastating violence.'

Ashton Kutcher wrote on X: 'Antisemitic rhetoric is not abstract -- it carries a cost, and my brothers and sisters continue to pay it.

'May this devastation somehow spark a hidden miracle, one our eyes do not yet have the merit to see.'

Meanwhile, Sacha Baron Cohen simply said: '#Stopthehate'.

The Kid Laroi also echoed a similar sentiment, writing: 'I am at a total loss for words, this is beyond devastating. Horrific and inhumane.

'I am sending every bit of my love, thoughts and prayers to all of the victims and their families. Please pray for Sydney.'

Rose Byrne expressed her heartbreak, adding: 'I am so horrified by the terrorist attack that took place on Bondi Beach in my beautiful hometown of Sydney. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and the Jewish community.

'Australia is one of the safest places in the world to practice any religion and am shocked, heartbroken and horrified by this unspeakable news.'

The Morning Show's Larry Emdur broke down in tears as he showed his support to the victims in an emotional video.

'I want to send my love and best wishes to the victims and their families. I've grown up at Bondi and crossed that bridge a million times and played in that park all my life,' he said.
'Bondi only ever for me has been a place of happiness and beautiful memories and that all changed yesterday for so many people.'
'Me and my family are so sad and I just wanted to let you know we are all thinking of you,' an emotional Larry said.

The death toll from the Bondi Beach massacre has risen to 16 overnight, and includes a child, marking one of the darkest days in the country's history.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon also confirmed at least 29 people had been injured.

One of the gunmen was also shot dead and the second is in hospital under police guard.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave a speech to the public following a meeting of the National Security Committee on Sunday night.

'There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation,' he said.
'Let me be clear, we will eradicate it. Amidst this vile act of violence and hate will emerge a moment of national unity, where Australians across the board will embrace their fellow Australians of Jewish faith.'

A child passed away at Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick. Four patients were transferred to the children's hospital, New South Wales Health Minister Ryan Park said.

Victims are being identified.

Alex Kleytman tragically died while saving his wife of five decades, she told the Daily Mail.

Married for five decades, grandmother Larisa Kleytman and her husband came from Matraville, a suburb of Sydney, to celebrate Hanukkah with other Jewish people.

'I think he was shot because he raised himself up to protect me, in the back of the head,' she said.

Lorai also praised Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the alleged attackers during the Bondi Beach mass shooting by grabbing his gun

Mrs Kleytman and her husband came to Australia from Ukraine and have two children and 11 grandchildren.

A Rabbi who promoted the Hannukah event at is also among the dead.

British-born Rabbi Eli Schlanger, who had recently celebrated the birth of his son, was among those shot when gunmen opened fire into the crowd on Sunday evening.

Several sources within the Bondi Jewish community confirmed the father of five was a victim. His wife Chaya is also believed to have been injured in the attack.

Some of their children were with the couple at the event but are understood to have escaped without physical injury.
