CERRO GORDO - Last Thursday Cerro Gordo/Bement nearly knocked off Heritage, a team that entered the contest at 18-5, but fell 40-38 in a Lincoln Prairie Conference game. The day before that the Broncos dropped a 46-34 conference contest to Tri-County.

Cerro Gordo, 7-17 overall and 3-4 in the conference, tried to snap a five-game losing streak Monday against Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon on the road in a LPC game. Tuesday they traveled to Arthur Christian for a non-conference game before hosting Arcola Thursday in a LPC game.

Heritage 40, Cerro Gordo/Bement 38

CGB's Avery Stoerger and Sophia Ferguson scored 12 points each, but it was not enough in the two-point game.

Stoerger sank a basket for a 25-22 lead and another bucket made it 31-26, CGB. The game was even at 33 entering the final quarter.

Maggie Petty scored the first four points of the quarter for a 37-33 lead. However, Heritage made a three-pointer and a two-point bucket to regain the lead 38-37. Two free throws by the Lady Hawks made it 40-37.

Heritage scored eighth of the first 10 points of the game. The Broncos got to within two points, 10-8. CGB took its first lead of the game, 16-14 after an 8-1 run that included two free throws by Ferguson and a basket along with a pair of free throws by Maggie Petty. It was a free throw by her that put the Broncos in front by one. A free throw by Maggie Petty made it 16-14

The game was deadlocked at 19 at halftime.

The Broncos struggled from the free throw line making just 10-24, including 1-of-6 in the second half, while Heritage was 13-of-22 (.591)

Tri-County 46, Cerro Gordo/Bement 34

Cerro Gordo led 29-14 when Maddy Willard drained a three-pointer to end the Tri-County Lady Titans 13-2 run. However, The Broncos didn't get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

The Broncos trailed just 10-8 after the first eight minutes and the Lady Titans 24-12 after outsourcing Cerro Gordo 10-2 for a 24-14, halftime lead and a Tri-County advantage.

Maggie Petty led Cerro Gordo/Bement with 16 points.

Tri-County shot 50 percent from the field, making 20-of-40,while the Broncos were 14-of-38 .368.

Tri-County improved to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in the LPC.
