A Chelsea Flower Show Garden is being created in memory of a young Jersey woman who died after a battle with ovarian cancer.

The Silent No More show garden aims to start conversations around gynaecological cancers, with its design representing the female body.

This was inspired by Emily Plane, who advocated for more awareness of the signs of cancer before she passed away aged 28.

Her mother Penny and the Lady Garden Foundation will be creating the garden, which will be displayed at the 2026 Chelsea Flower Show before it was showcased in Jersey.

Emily was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was 23, after experiencing stomach pains for a year and being falsely diagnosed with IBS.

Before she died in November 2023, she visited the Chelsea Flower Show and suggested that women's health charity, Lady Garden Foundation, should create something similar.

Her mother, Penny Plane has taken on the project. She said:

"I was angry actually and I think that's one of the stages of grief. Talking to other people who've lost their children early, you know, you're angry, you're cross, thinking - why couldn't I have done something?

"All of that emotion has been completely channelled into doing this garden... ever so often I might go 'Emily why did you make me do this?' because I'm very out of my comfort zone but it has been a wonderful way of sort of channelling my emotions."

The 100m (328ft) garden will contain four 2.5m (8ft) curved walls, a pool of water and five sculptures - representing one of the five gynaecological cancers: ovarian, cervical, vaginal, womb and vulva.

Seating areas will also be put in place to encourage people to sit down and have a conversation about cancer.

Penny Plane said:

"If Emily had known about the Lady Garden Foundation before her diagnosis and had looked at their website and looked at the list of symptoms they have (of gynaecological cancer) and gone in an informed manner to her GP... they would have found it much earlier and we probably wouldn't be sitting here talking to you today.

"We need to talk about these things. We need to talk about the symptoms. And it might be a little bit unpleasant to talk...but we must talk about them, we must."

The Silent No More show garden will be at the Chelsea Flower Show 2026 from 19th - 23rd May.

In June, the garden will be brought to Jersey and displayed in locations such as Trinity Churchyard and St Peter's Valley.
