Pink Floyd legend Dave Gilmour is facing a 'property nightmare' as his luxury seafront mansion remains unsold more than three years after it was put on sale for £15million.

The rockstar, 79, ploughed millions into transforming a derelict 19th-century Victorian bathhouse into a grand family home, only to see it become a 'White Elephant' he is now struggling to offload.

The guitar legend has been forced to slash the asking price of Medina House multiple times, with the guide price now plummeting to £8,950,000 - a massive £6million drop from its original valuation.

Neighbours say the legendary rock star and his wife, writer Polly Samson, have been left with a 'millstone around their necks'.

They say the building was an exercise in 'rock star hubris' and 'bad taste' which has blighted the historic seafront in Hove, East Sussex.

Neighbours say it is a case of 'schadenfreude' for the couple's 'rockstar largesse', 'arrogance' and 'lavish spending'.

Branding it 'Polly's Folly', they say the mansion should never have been built and say it is now an ugly 'White Elephant'.

One said: 'Frankly they should never have been given permission for the White Elephant in the first place and now it is a millstone around their necks.'

The seafront home caused controversy from the moment the rock star, who is worth an estimate £140million, and his wife Polly, 63, unveiled their plans for it.

'Bulldozing of the old bathhouse was deeply unpopular among residents and heritage groups. I put it down to rock star hubris and arrogance from Gilmour and his wife.

'When we saw what was put up in its place people were horrified. It was nicknamed "Polly’s Folly" and the fact they decided to sell it straight away is just a testament to their blatant disregard for locals.'

Felicity Banks, a long-time resident, said: 'The building was finished after Covid but they never really lived there. They decided to stay at their country farm instead.

'I’m sure £15million is just a drop in the ocean for them but we lost part of our historic seafront heritage and they just walked away. It’s disgusting and shows them to be arrogant and out-of-touch.'

Residents and conservationists said bulldozing the 122-year-old Victorian baths and placing it with a new-build home was 'appalling and disrespectful'.

One group, Save Hove from Property Tycoons pinned a message to the building wall reading: 'We don't need no demolition, we don't need no thoughtless plans, no tall dark shadows across our windows. Leave Medina House Alone.

'Hey Gilmour, leave our hood alone. All in all it's just another betrayal of us all, to you it's just another brick in the wall.'

The only surviving building from the famous King's Esplanade in Hove, the Turkish bathhouse first opened in 1894 offering women slipper baths and steam rooms to the general public.

The slipper baths were opened for people with no sanitation at home and were designed to improve hygiene.

During the Second World War it saw service as a makeshift hospital, before being turned housing a diamond cutting business.

It fell into disrepair and was eventually bought by Gilmour in 2015 for around £2.5million; plans were unveiled and construction soon began.

The couple insisted they had 'fallen in love' with their new home and said they were looking forward to hosting some 'memorable parties' there.

'Sometimes we hop across the beach with our fishing rods, bring back the catch to meet a few herbs from the garden,' Mr Gilmour and Ms Samson gushed in a joint statement. 'Five minutes from sea to mouth!'

But just months after Medina House was completed, the couple announced they were selling it.

They said they had decided to remain at their country farm and the mansion was put up for sale in the summer of 2022 for an eye-watering £15million.

The couple said: 'The main bedroom, with sea views in all directions, is a beautiful place from which to watch the sunrise and sunset across the sea'

But a year later and with house prices tumbling, the couple were forced to drastically lower the asking price to £10million.

The home is now on sale for £8.95million, which neighbours living close to the seafront home say is still unrealistic.

'It a total folly,' said one resident. 'It is on the busy seafront, has absolutely no privacy and can be seen from everywhere.
'Only a billionaire who likes to live large would want it. No-one can afford £9million for a house that doesn't even have a parking space. It's sheer cuckooland.'

The house boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open plan sitting room, kitchen and dining room, a library, music room, gym and sauna as well.

According to Perry Press, the founder of Pereds, the London-based property consultancy, the couple said: 'The main bedroom, with sea views in all directions, is a beautiful place from which to watch the sunrise and sunset across the sea.'

'When you wake up in the morning, the view is always a surprise: the sea and sky are never the same. At night, it's intoxicating to watch from bed the moon reflected in the water.'

Other amenities include hardwood flooring and underfloor heating throughout; polished plaster ceilings and walls; log-burning and gas-operated open fires; a host of sustainability and smart-home features including remote-controlled door entry systems with biometric fingerprint access ,the listing said .
