Eddie Murphy explains why he pays for friends' funerals -- including Redd Foxx and Rick James -- but avoids attending them.

Jasmin Lawrence and Eric Murphy have welcomed a child, who comes from comedy royalty.

The daughter of Martin Lawrence and the son of Eddie Murphy recently welcomed their first baby together. Eddie Murphy shared the news with E! while attending his American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony on Saturday, April 18.

"They just had a baby girl," he said. "They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye."

Lawrence and Murphy confirmed their relationship in 2021, and they tied the knot in 2025. When the couple shared news of their engagement in 2024, they wrote on Instagram, "God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn't be more excited for this next chapter."

Although Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have worked together before, costarring in the movies "Boomerang" and "Life," their children actually met through Jasmin Lawrence's uncle.

"It wasn't even our dads, and they've done two movies together," she previously told InTouch. "They're friends. I don't even know. It's crazy. But we met through my uncle, and we became really good friends. We bonded on a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds, so we understood each other on a certain level."

Eddie Murphy confirmed the couple had married in May 2025 while appearing on "The Jennifer Hudson Show." He said at the time that they chose not to have a large wedding ceremony. "They got married like two weeks ago," he said. "Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them."

Jasmin Lawrence shared photos from their baby shower on Instagram in March, calling it the "most beautiful and special celebration for our baby girl" and thanking "our parents and everyone that made this day so magical!" She added, "Ari Skye Murphy, you are SO loved already."

Speaking with E! News, Eddie Murphy said he didn't have any parenting advice for his son and his daughter-in-law. "Oh, you don't give advice like that. You know, your kids don't go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you."

In Eddie Murphy's speech as he accepted the AFI's Life Achievement honor, the "Coming to America" star reflected, "I just had my first grandson, and my third granddaughter, and I just turned 65. I feel like it's raining blessings on me this month, and to get this award and still look like myself. Because sometimes they wait until you're really old."

Murphy previously joked on "CBS Mornings" in 2024 that if Eric and Jasmin "get married and have a child, I'm expecting the child to be funny."
