Lind, who now stars as the lead "Liar" in Prime Video's adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling book, We Were Liars, worked with Ewan, 54, on Doctor Sleep in 2019. At that point, she had never met his daughter Esther McGregor, who is the same age as her.
Ewan knew, though, that the two would hit it off, and when Esther, 23, was cast alongside Lind as one of the titular Liars in the series, they did just that.
Lind, 23, remembers Ewan "talking about how [Esther and I] were alike" while on set of the movie, she tells PEOPLE. He told her, "You should meet my daughter at some point."
"And I don't think she had started acting or anything like that yet," she recalls.
"It was so weird. He's like, 'I have a young daughter, your age exactly. You guys are both artists, weird kids with short hair. You guys would be friends.'"
Looking back, it was like "kismet" that she met Ewan on that movie and later came to bond so tightly with Esther.
Lind didn't meet any of the three other Liars -- Esther, Joseph Zada and Shubham Maheshwai -- until they landed in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, where they spent five months filming the series.
"But I had known Esther because we were both super upset about this crazy thing. We found each other randomly [on Instagram]." They were "DMing each other" for a while, but then "we never spoke after."
"And then, we met [on We Were Liars] and we were so instantly obsessed with each other, it was so cool."
The second-oldest daughter of Ewan and his ex-wife Eve Mavrakis, Esther plays Mirren in the series, one of the titular "Liars" and onscreen daughter to Candice King, who told PEOPLE at the show's Tribeca Festival premiere in New York City of Esther, "I feel like she's like this magical fairy that sprinkles pixie dust of joy everywhere she goes."
"And parallel to that, she's just such a hard worker and brings so many incredible creative ideas to a set and to a character," King, 38, gushed. "She couldn't have been a better scene partner as a co-star, as well as a better person to be around."
Lind agrees, as she names Esther as the person who is most like their character among the foursome of Liars. "She's a giddy girl," Lind says of Esther. "She's just magic-y."
Though Lind says she didn't have all that much downtime between her days on set, she says Esther, Maheshwari and Zada, 20, were "so wonderful" to have around her.
"I didn't do anything [outside of filming]. I literally went to set; I was there all day every day; sometimes 16 hours a day. And I'd go home; I'd sleep -- not enough -- and run my lines and meet up with Shubham sometimes."
"He'd come over to my house and -- we had most of the stuff together -- we'd run lines. We were boring. We were the grandparents."
Still, she says of having the three other Liars with her through the experience, "We were all so good together. It was so good to have them as a support mechanism."
