Every TV show reboot in 2026 - from detective series to teen sitcom

TV viewers hoping for comfort nostalgia are in for a treat - as there are a string of reboots lined up to launch on screens this year.

Whether bringing back the same cast or reimagining the story, fans will soon see old favourites come back for a revival.

As well as ITV and BBC favourites, multiple US shows are also making a comeback in the very near future.

Let's take a look at all the former shows being brought back in 2026.

Dalziel and Pascoe

Dalziel and Pascoe aired on the BBC for 12 series - but ITV is set to launch a reimagined version of the series

Starring Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan, this crime drama ran from 1996 to 2007 on BBC One, spanning 12 series.

The series followed veteran detective Andy Dalziel (Warren Clarke) and his corner-cutting ways and his younger partner, Peter Pascoe, (Colin Buchanan) who insists on solving crimes by the book.

Earlier this month, ITV announced the actresses who will be fronting the new all-female Dalziel and Pascoe reboot for a reimagining.

The leading roles will now be played by Kerry Godliman, 52, known for her work on the likes of Afterlife and Derek, who will step into the shoes of Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel, and Virdee star, Nina Singh, 30, who will play Detective Sergeant Paige Pascoe.

The show, which is set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Wetherton, will be filmed this spring and is expected to air later this year.

Byker Grove

Teen drama Byker Grove - set in Newcastle - launched the careers of Ant and Dec, who played PJ and Duncan

Coming-of-age teen drama Byker Grove aired on the BBC between 1989 to 2006, taking place in Byker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

It notably launched the careers of Ant and Dec - who played PJ and Duncan in the programme - along with a slew of other big names.

This includes Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam, actresses Jill Halfpenny and Donna Air, as well as Emmerdale's Laura Norton.

In 2023, Ant and Dec confirmed the programme would be returning, although now renamed to simply Byker.

The revived programme has yet to hit screens, but is believed to be launching this year.

Baywatch

Baywatch initially aired between 1989 and 2001 - but now a brand new version is coming to screens

Baywatch originally ran from 1989 to 2001 and followed a group of life guards who patrolled the beaches in Los Angeles.

It starred David Hasselhoff in the lead role of Mitch Buchanan and also made a star out of Pamela Anderson who played C.J. Parker.

For its final two years on air, the show was retitled Baywatch: Hawaii, with future movie star Jason Momoa joining the cast.

A new version will air for 12 episodes on Fox in the 2026-27 television season and will be produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.

Malcolm In The Middle

Frankie Muniz and co are coming back for a limited Malcolm In The Middle revival - and fans don't have long to wait

This hugely popular American sitcom ran for seven seasons until 2006 and centred around child prodigy Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) as he tried to navigate life within his dysfunctional family.

Two decades later, the show is returning for a miniseries revival titled Malcolm In The Middle: Life's Still Unfair, referencing lyrics from the iconic theme song.

Most of the original cast will return - with the notable exception of Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark was brought in to take over the role.

Comprising four 30-minute episodes, the revival will release on Hulu and Disney+ on April 10, 2026.

Scrubs

Beloved medical sitcom Scrubs ran for nine seasons and is coming back to screens after 16 years off air

Medical sitcom Scrubs first aired from 2001 to 2010, for a total of nine seasons in its original run.

The main character, Dr. John 'JD' Dorian (Zach Braff) also serves as the show's narrator.

16 years later, the show is returning for a reboot with multiple cast members reprising their roles - as first announced in July 2025.

Those coming back are Braff, Donald Faison (Dr. Chris Turk), Sarah Chalke (Dr. Elliot Reid), John C. McGinley (Dr. Perry Cox) and Judy Reyes (Carla Espinosa).

Supporting cast members Robert Maschio (The Todd) and Phill Lewis (Hooch) are also confirmed to return.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Created by Joss Whedon, this legendary supernatural horror series originally aired from 1997 to 2003.

It was inspired by a 1992 film of the same name, which Whedon, 61, also wrote the screenplay for.

A revival titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale is set to premiere on Hulu in 2026.

It sees Sarah Michelle Gellar, 48, return as Buffy although there is a new protagonist, Nova, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Prison Break

Prison Break ran first for four seasons - with a fifth much later - and now a revival set in the same universe is coming to screens soon

Crime drama Prison Break originally aired on Fox from 2005 to 2009, making stars of lead actors Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

Hulu has greenlit a revival set in the same universe, but not featuring the original characters.

The cast will be led by Australian actress Emily Browning, who will play main character Cassidy.

The Winchesters actor Drake Rodger will star as Tommy and Euphoria's Lukas Gage will play Jackson.

Additionally, Clayton Cardenas stars as Michael aka Ghost; JR Bourne plays Junior; Georgie Flores portrays Andrea; Myles Bullock plays Darius aka Red.

Per the official logline,the series follows Emily's character Cassidy who is an 'ex-soldier turned corrections officer [who] takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she'll go for someone she loves.'

The Secret Life Of Us

Channel 4 drama The Secret Life Of Us helped launch the career of Joel Edgerton (pictured), who became a big star in Hollywood

This much-loved Channel 4 drama ran from 2001 to 2005 over four seasons and was set in the beachside neighbourhood of St Kilda, Australia.

It is set to return for a reboot, a whopping 21 years after last being on screen.

The Secret Life of Us notably launched the career of actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton.

He went on to become a huge star in Hollywood after starring in the series as William McGill.

The star was recently nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor category for film Train Dreams, which hit the silver screen in 2025.
