A female streamer from Germany was attacked during a New Year's Eve celebration in the streets of Cologne, according to German media.
Newsweek reached out to the streamer, Kunshikitty, and the police in Cologne, Germany, for comment via email.
Video of the attack received millions of views on the social media platform X on Monday. The video underscores ongoing public safety concerns for women across the globe and comes on the 10th anniversary of a wave of assaults against women across Germany during New Year's Eve celebrations.
Kunshikitty, a streamer who has more than 200,000 followers on Twitch, streamed from the city's New Year's Eve celebrations Wednesday night, reported the German news outlet Bild.
She walked through a crowd when an unidentified individual appeared to throw an item at her head, according to BILD. She was hit with a second item a few minutes later. The publication reported that she was allegedly hit with a firework, though police have not confirmed that detail.
She said during the livestream she would file a police report, BILD reported. Police in Cologne told the publication that an investigation had been launched after the recording had been made public online. Details about the investigation, including any potential suspects or why they would allegedly attack her, had not been made public by Thursday evening.
According to BILD, the streamer said that if she "were a two-meter-tall bouncer," the alleged attackers "wouldn't have done that." She continued the stream for more than an hour after the attack.
The streamer was also "verbally and physically harassed" during a broadcast at Oktoberfest earlier in 2025, BILD reported.
There were other instances of violence on New Year's Eve.
The BBC reported that police in the Netherlands were "pelted with fireworks" and faced an "unprecedented amount of violence." Petrol bombs were thrown at police in one city; in another, 14 patients were treated for eye injuries. In another case, a 17-year-old boy and a 38-year-old man were killed in firework incidents.
It comes 10 years after more than 1,000 women across Germany, including in Cologne, were reported to have been assaulted during New Year's Eve celebrations. There were more than 500 attacks in Cologne alone, 40 percent of which were reported to have been related to sexual assault, police said at the time. The attacks also set off anti-migration protests after it was reported that many of the alleged attackers were migrants.
Kunshikitty said during the livestream, per BILD: "Ow, ow, I've been hit by something. I've been hit on the head by something."
More details about the attack have not been made public; it remains under investigation, reported BILD.
