The Monroe County Democratic Party in Pennsylvania on Sunday called Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) a "traitor" to Democrats and those who supported his campaign following his repeated support for some Trump administration policies and Cabinet officials.
"TRAITOR to Democrats. TRAITOR to Pennsylvanians. TRAITOR to those who worked tirelessly to elect him and stood with him," the county chapter of the Democratic Party wrote in a Sunday post on X.
"'51st vote,' my a$$. This FOX pundit is MAGA. Primary him and vote him out in 2028," they added.
The statement accompanies a reposted clip of Fetterman on Fox News discussing whether he'd back Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for a Cabinet job.
"I'm not sure what he's up for the job, but I voted for some of those members of the Cabinet because, you know, like Marco Rubio, I think he's done a great job overall too. It used to not be very controversial to absolutely vote for these kinds of people just because it happens to be the opposite party," the Pennsylvania senator said during an interview on Fox News's "The Sunday Briefing."
"Right now, our entire party's been defined by TDS," he added, referring to "Trump Derangement Syndrome," a pejorative term used by President Trump to describe people who disagree with him or discuss his policies critically.
Fetterman has become a party outlier, bucking the party to back former Sen. Markwayne Mullin's (R-Okla.) nomination to become Homeland Security secretary after previously having joined seven Democratic senators to back ex-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's nomination.
He later called for Noem to be fired following critiques of her leadership.
Fetterman notably opposed Cabinet nominations for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
However, he has repeatedly slammed the Democratic party for allegedly succumbing to "TDS" by not backing efforts to secure taxpayer dollars for the White House Ballroom and not supporting the Iran war.
During the Sunday interview, Fetterman says he is aiming to work across party lines.
"We have to find a way to work together, and we can agree on some things, and we're going to disagree on other things, as I've done," Fetterman said of the Democratic party.
However, Republican leaders including the president have noted Fetterman's willingness to support the GOP's legislative agenda and have urged him to change party affiliation.
According to reports from The New Republic, the Pennsylvania Democrat was promised a Trump endorsement and "financial windfall" for changing parties.
During an interview, Fox News host Sean Hannity told Fetterman that Trump nudged him to publicly lobby the senator's switch.
"Your job is to tell him: He's gonna be run as a Republican, he's gonna have our full support, more money than he ever dreamed of, and he's gonna win big,'" Hannity recalled on air.
Despite disagreements, last September Fetterman said he would not switch parties while in office.
