A photograph has been shared on X by influential conservative account 'Libs of TikTok' seeming to show a demonstrator mocking the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk during a 'No Kings' demonstration in Georgia over the weekend.
Newsweek contacted the No Kings campaign and Libs of TikTok for comment on Tuesday via email outside of regular office hours.
Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while holding an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with murder with prosecutors saying they intend to seek the death penalty. He has yet to enter a plea.
Following Kirk's assassination there was fury on the American right over some social media posts that appeared to either mock or celebrate the shooting. If the photograph shared on Monday is confirmed as authentic it is likely to cause fresh outrage, along with debate about the coarsening of American political discourse.
On Monday the 'Libs of TikTok' X account, which has 4.5 followers and is run by conservative activist Chaya Raichik, shared a photograph seeming to show a man mocking Kirk's assassination at a No Kings demonstration in Georgia on Saturday.
The man is wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan "FREEDOM," -- as Kirk was when he was shot -- and his face, neck and T-shirt are covered with what appears to be fake blood. He is also wearing a medallion around his neck which reads 'BOZO' -- likely a reference to Bozo the Clown.
Libs of TikTok wrote: "This freak was mocking Charlie's ass*ssination at the no kings protest in Georgia. Anyone recognize him??"
Newsweek has not independently verified the authenticity of the photograph shared.
A reverse image search conducted by Newsweek using the ImgOps website showed the photograph had been shared a number of times online but its origin remains unclear.
Separately Fox News reported there were calls for a woman -- who Republican commentators have claimed works as a teacher in Chicago -- to be fired after she was filmed appearing to point an imaginary firearm at her neck and shouting "bang, bang" as a truck drove past with a flag commemorating Kirk.
Conservative activist Kaitlin Bennett shared footage on X which she said showed a No Kings protester in Bradenton, Florida, branding Kirk as "horrible" and saying she was "glad he's not here."
In a post on X, Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet said: "The most vile reactions to Charlie's murder have almost all been public schoolteachers and professors. Tells you a lot about what America's children are facing and why TPUSA is more important than ever."
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted on X: "The so-called 'No Kings' protest wasn't a protest, it was a coordinated and corruptly funded mass call for political murder. The crowd was filled with left-wing extremists openly calling for murder of President Trump and celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk."
An X post from the No Kings Here account said: "The American people do not bow down to kings. We march. We stand up. We do not back down. Today and every day, we persist."
It remains to be seen whether the individual who appeared to imitate the slain Kirk will be identified or face any legal consequences. America's increasingly volatile political atmosphere means similar provocative stunts are likely in the coming months.
