A mother has shared the moment her five-year-old daughter discovered she was going to have a baby brother - but her reaction wasn't quite as she had hoped.

Young Olivia Lee was tasked with the joyous news of revealing her new sibling's gender by popping a black balloon filled with confetti and printed with: 'Blue or pink? What do you think?'

However, the reveal quickly descended into chaos when the youngster punched the balloon and blue confetti came flying out - confirming that the new arrival would in fact be a boy.

In a hilarious video filmed by her mother, Fallon, Olivia Lee was far from happy to hear that her mother was pregnant with a son.

When the realisation that she had a brother on the way sunk in, the youngster, dressed in a hopeful pink cardigan, cried out: 'Oh no... I want a girl' and burst into tears.

As her parents tried to reassure her not to cry, Olivia Lee was seemingly inconsolable as she put her hands to her face and emotionally exclaimed: 'It's a boy!'

'I want a girl,' she cried once more, before walking away from the camera in a state of upset and anger.

According to her mother Fallon, Olivia Lee had been 'so upset' by the news that a young brother was on the way and was devastated to learn that her dreams of a sister had been shattered.

In a desperate bid to appease the situation, Fallon, 37, explained that she had sought to reassure the five-year-old that she is still special, especially because she is the only girl.

Despite her initial upset, Olivia is said to have warmed to her new sibling and wholly embraced the role of being an older sister.

Fallon said: 'She loves him so much he is her full world, and said boy are a lots better then girls.'

Yet Olivia Lee certainly isn't the first child to have had an experience of disappointment when learning of her sibling.

In 2023, Kay Hancox, from Coventry, filmed her then eight-year-old daughter, Darcey, walking into the hospital room to reveal the exciting news when she was having an ultrasound.

But the young child began to weep and cry out, refusing to believe that she would be getting a baby brother or sister.

After watching a Disney Christmas advert where parents lose interest in their first child after welcoming another baby, the eight-year-old had been scared the same fate awaited her.

Kay said: 'I was hoping for a happy response from my daughter as she had always asked for a brother or sister, until a few weeks ago when that changed.'

'After she watched the Disney Christmas advert, she point blank said she didn't want a sibling anymore, so I knew telling her could get a bad response.'

'Darcey is now coming round to the idea of being a big sister, but only if it's a girl.'
