The creators of a new TV series about John F. Kennedy Jr's whirlwind life and tragic death have spoken out after Kennedy heir Jack Schlossberg slammed the show.

Love Story, starring Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon, spotlights the lives and love between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, up until their fatal plane crash in 1999.

The show premiered on Thursday and sparked a wave of backlash and support from fans - including from Schlossberg, nephew of JFK Jr.

During the show's filming, 33-year-old Schlossberg publicly denounced its creation on Instagram, calling it a 'grotesque way to profit' off his uncle's life.

'For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with, the new shows being made about him, the answer is no,' Schlossberg said back in June 2025. 'And there's really not much we can do.'
'The right to privacy, which includes the ability to control your own name, image and likeness, doesn't survive death in the state of New York. For that matter, he's considered a public figure, so there's not much we can do.'

He hoped the show's producers take his uncle's achievements seriously and donate a portion of their profits.

'For the record, I think admiration for my uncle John is great. What I don't think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way,' he said.

Executive producer Brad Simpson has since responded to the 'grotesque' claims, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Simpson said the creators must consider their 'ethical obligation' to the family and approach the show with 'love and kindness.'

'What I hope is that when people watch the show, they will see our sincerity. They will see that we've approached this with love, and that we were trying to celebrate the life of Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jr,' he told the outlet.

He added that he wants viewers to see the 'walk through their footsteps,' saying, 'I can understand why somebody could have a reaction before they see it.'

'But, I would say, "watch the show," because I think they're going to be surprised at how sincere it is.'

The response has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some arguing that Jack Schlossberg's claims about 'profiting off his family' are not valid.

'This motherf*er is the last person on Earth who should be complaining about someone drafting off his family's clout,' one person wrote on X.
Another agreed, calling the heir: 'Beyond mediocre and uninspiring.'

Schlossberg suited up at a Christmas Party back in December; he also revealed that his family was not consulted during the show's creation.

The series debuted on Thursday and has nine episodes revolving around the tragic romance of the pair.

But many pushed back in support of Jack Schlossberg, arguing he has every right to be upset since it involves his immediate family.

'His family's clout is his clout... he's part of that family. That's kind of his god given right,' one user wrote.
'Well, that is his family. That is in fact different,' another said.

The nine-episode series created by Ryan Murphy explores the private courtship of the high-profile 90s couple, following the progression of their love until their tragic plane crash on July 16, 1999.
