HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - If you plan on driving through Hillsborough County next week, you might want to double-check your route before heading out the door. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 released its latest lane closure summary for January 18 through January 24, 2026, and crews are going to be busy on several major arteries.

From overnight maintenance on the interstates to 24-hour closures on local surface streets, here is what commuters need to know to avoid getting stuck in gridlock.

Interstate Slowdowns

Drivers frequenting I-4 should watch for maintenance work near Park Road. Eastbound lanes will see closures on the night of Thursday, Jan. 22, starting at 9 p.m. The work shifts to the westbound side just after midnight on Friday, Jan. 23.

On I-75, a longer-term project kicks off this week. Closures will stretch from SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) to Fowler Avenue. These will happen nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., running Sunday through mid-February. Southbound drivers on I-75 between Harney Road and the Tampa Bay Bypass Canal will also face restrictions Sunday through Friday nights.

For those crossing the bay, night owls should prepare for delays on the Howard Frankland Bridge. Lane closures on I-275 between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are scheduled every night from Sunday, Jan. 18 through Saturday, Jan. 24, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Major Highway Impacts

US 301 is seeing significant activity this week. Perhaps the most critical alert for drivers is the 24-hour continuous lane closure from Bloomingdale Avenue to SR 574 (MLK Jr. Blvd.), which will remain in place through mid-February.

Other spots on US 301 facing restrictions include:

  • Whitt Road to Rivercrest Drive: Nightly closures Monday through Friday.
  • Ayersworth Glen Boulevard: Daytime closures Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Dawns Light Drive to Crest Side Boulevard: Overnight work Sunday through Thursday.

On Dale Mabry Highway (US 92), crews will close lanes between Ballast Point and Gandy Boulevard from Tuesday to Thursday nights. Further north, Dale Mabry at Lutz Lake Fern will also see closures Sunday through Thursday nights.

If you take SR 60 (Memorial Highway), expect westbound lane closures near the airport and Veterans Expressway Sunday through Thursday nights. Adamo Drive (SR 60) will also have daytime lane closures between 50th Street and US 301 all week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local Roads and 24-Hour Closures

Several surface streets are facing round-the-clock reductions that could impact local traffic patterns.

  • SR 39: Northbound lanes from Kilgore Road to Sparkman Road are closed 24 hours a day through Feb. 10.
  • 15th Street: Northbound lanes from Palm to 12th Avenue are closed continuously through Feb. 6.
  • Central Avenue: Northbound lanes from 7th Avenue to Estelle Street are closed continuously through Feb. 6.
  • Elmore Avenue: Northbound lanes from Robles Street to Columbus Drive are closed continuously through Feb. 6.

Other notable spots include daytime work on Park Road (SR 553) near I-4 and intermittent night lane closures on Nebraska Avenue between Palm Avenue and Columbus Drive.

Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution in these construction zones and allow extra travel time, especially during peak commute hours.
