The Capture's tense series three trailer sees star Holliday Grainger pushed to the breaking point - as the BBC finally confirms when the show will return.
Holliday, 37, reprises her lead role as Rachel Carey, who last series broadcast a live deepfake of a government minister to the nation.
This, in turn, exposed the UK intelligence service's clandestine video manipulation programme known as Correction.
Speaking in the trailer, Carey says: 'The question we asked ourselves a year ago has become even more urgent.
'How do we sort fact from fiction? How can we believe what we see?'
The trailer also shows Carey reunite with familiar faces, including Isaac Turner (Paapa Essiedu), CIA agent Frank Napier (Ron Perlman) and BBC News presenter Khadija Khan (Indira Varma).
The new series picks up 12 months after Carey exposed the UK government's unlawful use of deepfake programme Correction.
Meanwhile, the final moments show a visibly emotional Carey asking an unseen figure: 'Is it true? Is it real?'
The BBC synopsis reads: 'It's been 12 months since Rachel Carey broadcast a live deepfake of a government minister to the nation, exposing the UK intelligence service's clandestine video manipulation programme known as Correction.
'Amidst an inquiry into the unlawful use of Correction, Carey has become Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command, determined to regain the public's trust in surveillance technology through the new Operation Veritas camera system.
'And then it happens: a brutal and exceptionally well-coordinated act of terror aimed right at the heart of the British establishment that leaves behind just one witness.
'The more Carey investigates, the deeper she is drawn into an unfolding geopolitical crisis that infects the British political establishment, the security services, and the media.
'The conspiracy reaches deep into the State, but just who is pulling the strings?'
Viewers will likewise be reacquainted with Indira Varma as BBC News presenter Khadija Khan, Ben Miles as Danny Hart, Lia Williams as Gemma Garland and Ginny Holder as DI Nadia Latif.
Series three also marks several new cast additions, including Hugh Quarshie, Andrew Buchan, Joe Dempsie, Linus Roache, Amanda Drew, Jonathan Aris and Killian Scott.
The thrilling trailer shows a distressed Carey in a tense situation and asking: 'Is it true? Is it real?'
Episode one of The Capture series three will launch on BBC iPlayer at 6am on Sunday March 8.
In addition, it will land on BBC One at 9pm that evening, with new episodes then released weekly on BBC iPlayer and BBC One each Sunday.
The new series was confirmed last year after a second season dropped with six hour-long episodes following Carey taking down a deepfake plot.
Series two honed in on the dark world of deepfakes and international espionage, developing a string of frighteningly prescient plots.
In the opening season, a soldier fell victim to manipulated tech-based evidence amid the disappearance of his barrister, while the following series focused on a government minister caught up in a deep fake campaign.
Fans of the show will be delighted to hear of its return after the opening seasons gripped viewers, with many penning positive reviews online.
One said on Rotten Tomatoes: 'Provocative and tense would be two words that spring to mind immediately. The central premise is engaging and pushes the boundaries of our imagination while not falling prey to the outlandishness that currently holds Hollywood ransom.'
Another impressed viewer added: 'For me this was a slightly slow start/slow burn but once I was hooked l could not stop watching. Interesting if a little scary Big Brother plotline. Some great British actors too.'
A third fan posted: 'One of the best series I've ever watched. Thought the first season was good but the 2nd takes it to the next level. Need more series like this. The ending was sublime, left me utterly speechless.'
The Capture series one and two are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
