A Gold Coast man who allegedly stabbed his son to death just weeks after he moved back into the family home has been identified.

Danny Leigh Perry, 54, fronted Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with the murder of his son Victor Floyd Perry.

Victor, 34, was declared dead at the family's home in McCrae Court, Maudsland, after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a knife.

It's understood police were called to the four-bedroom home about 6.40pm on Monday, with officers later arresting Perry at the scene.

Perry, who appeared in court shoeless and in prison greens, was silent as the matter was briefly mentioned in court.

His Legal Aid duty lawyer, Paul Hamilton, told the court that Perry was 'obviously in a situation where he is unable to apply for bail in relation to this charge'.

The case was adjourned to April 10 to allow for a brief of evidence to be ordered.

The Daily Mail can now reveal Victor, who studied at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus, was a car fanatic who doted on his mint green Holden Torana.

In a series of Facebook posts, Victor could be seen smiling with the car while discussing its mechanics.

Eerily, the same car appeared behind police tape on Tuesday morning as forensic officers combed the scene for evidence.

It's understood the home is owned by Perry and his wife, Narelle, Victor's mother.

Shocked neighbours told the Daily Mail they were a quiet family who 'always seemed to be at home', with one local saying she'd never seen Perry before the incident.

Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said there was no history of domestic violence incidents between anyone living at the property.

'There is no reported domestic violence incidents between the two parties involved or anyone else living at the address,' Inspector Mooney said.
'We believe it was a knife used, that's what we'll be alleging. Forensics are still conducting a thorough investigation, there are multiple knives in the house so we're still conducting our inquiries.
'We've spoken to a lot of family members who've provided us different versions of events and what's been happening in that family environment and that will all form part of our brief of evidence to the court.'

Inspector Mooney also confirmed Perry, who was found by police inside the lounge room, later refused to be interviewed by officers.

It's understood Victor's mother was not in the home when the incident occurred.

'No one was present at the time,' Inspector Mooney said.
'The deceased's cousin is the one that called police after being notified of the incident by the defendant.'

Police confirmed neither party had any 'substantive criminal history'.
