Following the discovery, a Westerly resident, Taylor Day, who had been near the scene told local news outlet NBC10 WJAR, "It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly," She also noted the scene's proximity to Swift’s landmark mansion, as well as the area's most famous historic hotel.
"It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift’s house and the Ocean House," Day told the outlet at the time. "I would never expect anything like that -- especially not in Watch Hill."

Swift’s 1920s property, also known as High Watch, overlooks East Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. It was formerly owned by Standard Oil heiress Rebekah West Harkness, who inspired Swift’s song, “The Last Great American Dynasty” on her 2020 album Folklore.
The Grammy-winning artist has hosted a star-studded guest list at the property -- especially at her famous Fourth of July parties -- including Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, the Haim sisters, and Selena Gomez.
Swift reportedly purchased her home in 2013 for $17.75 million, according to The New York Times. Watch Hill is known for its Victorian-style homes and for offering its residents a "strong sense of privacy," per the outlet.
