HUAWEI has built a reputation for frequent smartwatch launches with industry-leading features, but the brand's latest drop feels different; it's arguably their most accessible yet.
Instead of catering purely to hardcore fitness enthusiasts, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Series is designed for those who want to feel a bit healthier, a bit more active, and a lot less overwhelmed.
Slim and lightweight in design, it's designed to fit neatly on your wrist whilst quietly doing the heavy lifting with versatile sports modes from tennis to trail running, giving you the data and insights you need to perform at your best.
My first impressions
In truth, while I am a keen gym goer and run a few times a week, I have never had a fitness watch. The sheer volume of features and advanced tech that often comes with has felt too intense for my weekly workouts, but I was proven completely wrong when I got my hands on the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Pro Series.
At first glance, it is very slim, lightweight, and admittedly, while the orange strap wouldn't be my first choice (it does come in a range of colours), it doesn't scream 'gym gear' - it fits just as easily into your workday as it would working out at the gym.
The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Pro watch weighs just 30.4g, so feels very lightweight on your wrist when at the office or at the gym
Underneath its sleek design, it quietly auto-tracks everything from casual walks to more structured workouts, monitoring things like heart rate, calories, and overall health in the background. If you'd like to be kept accountable on your fitness journey, then I think the watch would be a great place to start.
While all these features don't seem groundbreaking, what is new is the first-of-its-kind on-wrist mini-workouts from HUAWEI. With this new feature you can get access to 30 guided movements. These didn't make me work up a sweat but nudged me to stretch with micro-movement exercises targeting areas like your neck, back, and shoulders - a winner for when I've done a long stint at my desk.
I also got a gentle buzz on my wrist, and a fun panda-themed watch face popped up when I was stationary for too long, prompting me to stretch my legs and take a little walk.
You can get lightweight training exercises directly to your wrist covering 10 body parts and gently reminders for you to move throughout the day
As expected, there were features that I didn't use. As someone who hates spin class, let alone cycling, I can't comment on the advanced cycling metrics, but the real-time data, such as Slope, Virtual Power, and Virtual Cadence, seemed impressive.
I do, however, love a 5-10km run, so the running data had my interest from the off. I enjoyed the beginner runner metrics; appreciating how it captured my real-time heart rate, pace, and calories burned rather than the more scientific metrics, such as running power.
The emotional wellbeing features were also intriguing. As well as sleep breathing awareness, pulse wave analysis (medical certified), and sleep monitoring, the watch has been developed to recognise 12 emotional states. These helped me recognise my emotions; making me more proactive in dealing with and recovering from negative ones.
I think the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Pro Series is a brilliant introduction to the brand and for those who are after a less hardcore fitness gadget and more as a subtle lifestyle upgrade. It's a great companion for those looking to build better habits, move a bit more, sleep a bit better, or just feel a little more in control of your day without overcomplicating things.
As expected from a brand like HUAWEI the new FIT 5 Series is durable; designed to withstand life's inevitable knocks thanks to high-performance materials including 2.5D sapphire glass.
If you've ever opened a sports watch app and immediately felt lost in a sea of stats, this is where the Fit 5 stands out.
While it goes well beyond step counting, the smart watch strips things back to what actually matters with easy-to-understand health insights, intuitive activity tracking, and gentle nudges that fit naturally into your day.
It may not be as long-lasting as the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 Pro, but the FIT 5 Series boasts an impressive 10-day battery life from a single charge under light use, so you can enjoy the expanded 1.82-inch AMOLED display, customizable watch faces, and advanced features for longer.
The watch auto-detects walking, running, and cycling with advanced metrics like virtual power and cadence for cycling
The fitness monitoring on the FIT 5 Series is extensive, as with a lot of the brands' sport watches, with a range of activities covering sports like tennis, cycling and trail running. The FIT 5 Pro Series is ideal for golf lovers with over 17,000 course maps, trail running with route navigation, virtual cycling power.
A new standout feature of the FIT 5 Series is HUAWEI'S first-ever on-wrist mini-workout experience. With 30 guided movements, you can exercise anytime, anywhere, following the fun guidance of a panda companion.
But it's not just about workouts. With access to the HUAWEI Health app, the watch makes tracking your health more accessible than ever, offering stress management tools, sleep tracking, and even menstrual cycle monitoring.
Gentle on the skin, the FIT 5 Series straps come in a range of colours so you can choose which is right for you
The watch also enables easy, instant, and independent payments and offers the key benefits of Curve Pay, such as direct tap-to-pay functionality, at countless terminals.
In short, it's a sports watch, smartwatch and traditional timepiece in one - a comprehensive health companion that fits neatly on your wrist, helping you stay informed and in control of your wellbeing.
Whether you're heading to the gym, the office, or out for a weekend hike, this smartwatch fits seamlessly into your lifestyle - packed with features to enhance your everyday training and health.
