LAFAYETTE - The Indiana State Police proudly announces the retirement of Master Trooper Aaron McCormick. Tomorrow will mark his final day of service, concluding more than three decades of service to the State of Indiana.
Trooper McCormick is a native of Marshall, IL, and later moved to Lafayette, IN, where he graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1991. He continued his education at Indiana State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminology in 1995.
In August of 1995, Trooper McCormick began his law enforcement career when he entered the 53rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, graduating in December of that same year. Following in the footsteps of his father, who also served as an Indiana State Trooper, he carried forward a strong family tradition of service to the State of Indiana. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Lowell Post, where he served the citizens of Lake County until 1997. He then transferred to the Lafayette Post, where he has faithfully served the community for the remainder of his career.
Throughout his tenure, Trooper McCormick took on a number of specialized roles that exemplify his commitment to both the agency and the profession. He served as a member of the High Performance Vehicle Unit, a Field Training Officer, and a member of the Mobile Field Force. In addition, he contributed to the development of future troopers as a counselor for the 68th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.
Trooper McCormick's dedication extended beyond patrol duties through his long-standing involvement with ceremonial honors. He began serving with the Metro Honor Guard in Tippecanoe County in 1998. In 2008, he joined the Indiana State Police Honor Guard, where he served with distinction until 2021. During this time, he represented the department with professionalism and dignity, participating in funeral honors and memorial services across multiple states while working alongside numerous law enforcement agencies.
Over the course of his career, Trooper McCormick became known for his professionalism, work ethic, and ability to build strong relationships within the community and among his fellow officers. His presence and leadership left a lasting impact on those he served alongside and the citizens he protected.
Trooper McCormick will retire with over 30 years of service to the Indiana State Police and the citizens of Indiana. His career has been marked by dedication, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to public safety. He leaves behind a legacy of mentorship, professionalism, and service that will continue to impact the department for years to come.
In retirement, Trooper McCormick looks forward to spending more time pursuing his passion for bowling, with plans to compete on the PBA Tour.
