It's been over a year since Australian singer Firerose's whirlwind marriage to Billy Ray Cyrus ended in a bitter public feud - and she is working hard to move on.

The pair tied the knot in October 2023 but were divorced by August last year, just three months after the Achy Breaky Heart star, 64, filed for separation citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

They confirmed their split in May 2024, though it was quite the contentious one, with both sides offering abuse claims in the proceedings - which they both denied.

Cyrus quickly moved on with actress Elizabeth Hurley, and the pair shocked the world when they debuted their new relationship earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Hodges, has thrown herself into work, channelling her past struggles into her music.

The singer-songwriter has been busy in the studio producing a new album, Shining Armor, which was released on August 15, and she recently returned to her hometown of Sydney to promote the recording.

On Wednesday, a rarely-seen Firerose stepped out in Bondi Beach.

She revealed her slender figure in a black belted romper paired with knee-high boots and oversized sunglasses.

Her long blonde hair cascaded in soft waves over her shoulders as she strolled through the tourist hotspot.

She accessorised with a stylish array of statement jewellery, including gold hoop earrings and a cross necklace, and she completed the look with a designer Gucci handbag.

The singer's latest LP draws heavily on her own personal experiences and the coping strategies she used to move forward.

In June she appeared on Channel Seven's The Morning Show and told the hosts that her record was all about resilience, with the knight in 'shining armour' of the title symbolising her own strength in overcoming life's toughest challenges.

'No matter how much pain you are in, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel,' she told co-hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.
'It is about choosing to look at the positive, because life can be really hard. I write my songs to try to turn my pain into something really beautiful.'

Far from retreating from public life, the 37-year-old has thrown herself into her music with renewed passion, channelling her past struggles into her new music.

The singer-songwriter has been busy in the studio producing a new album, Shining Armor, which was released on Friday.

'I couldn't be more grateful for my life right now and where it is at. I get to create with such sensationally talented people and do what I love, spread the light.'

She teamed up with Australian presenter Erin Molan to write a track for the album, recently posting a behind-the-scenes clip of their creative process to social media.

Firerose opened up about the pair's shared history of overcoming difficult relationships when collaborating during the songwriting process.

'I wrote this song with my beautiful friend after us both surviving devastating relationships,' she said.
'My deepest prayer is our song reaches the hearts of every survivor who feels completely alone. Every soul is precious and God loves you very much even if you can't feel it right now, it's true.'
'I found myself in an excruciating relationship. It destroys the very essence of who you are. The psychological warfare you are enduring is so profound because you love someone who is hurting you.'
'Through my music I want people to feel less alone.'

Firerose added she had put her heart and soul into the songwriting and composing process and couldn't wait for people to hear her new music.

Following her divorce with Cyrus, court documents revealed Firerose walked away without a cent in their financial settlement, but she did retain full rights to any songs the couple wrote together during their relationship.

In October, Firerose opened up to Stellar about her short-lived marriage, revealing what advice she would give her younger self after meeting Cyrus in 2010 while leaving an audition on a Hollywood lot where Hannah Montana was filmed.

She claimed that during their time together, Cyrus would often speak about them becoming 'soulmates'.

'I couldn't have seen 10 years into the future. When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction... never look back,' she admitted.

Firerose said they lost touch during the Covid-19 pandemic before he reached out and they rekindled their friendship - and romance eventually blossomed.

'He'd say bizarre things like, "We're going to have this epic love story beyond anything you can imagine. We're going to have twins, and call them Melody and Harmony,"' she claimed.

She said he promised to take her to ride horses around his Nashville farm and to a special beach in California - but claimed none of those things ever eventuated.

Firerose has now put it behind her and her focus now is firmly on her career - as she works at promoting her new album and injecting hope and positivity into the world.

The singer is also a Christian and frequently thanks God for her success and sobriety on social media.

Despite walking away from the marriage without a cent in the settlement - and watching her ex quickly move on with actress Elizabeth Hurley - Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Hodges , has refused to dwell on the past

'Nine years sober today by the grace of God's hand... Reached through the agonising darkness of addiction and lead me out. Not only did Jesus save me from inevitable death , He brought me back to life ,' she recently posted .

Following their split , Cyrus began dating glamorous actress Elizabeth Hurley in April .

Firerose has not gone public with a new relationship following their split .
