Bertinelli praises Wolfgang's kindness and commitment to his cats, saying he and Andraia will be great parents.
Valerie Bertinelli thinks her son and his wife "know" that she wants to be a grandmother.
Bertinelli, 66, attended the Lifetime Hosts FYC Screening and Panel of Love, Again on April 30, where she shared her thoughts about her hopes for son, Wolfgang Van Halen, to start his own family.
"No, still not nagging, but they know," she exclusively told PEOPLE about Wolfgang, 35, and his wife, Andraia Allsop, at the event. "Drea is very cute. She says, 'Well, he has to actually be home for a little while.' And he's not. The success of this third album has been so spectacular and he's taking advantage of it."
She added, "I just FaceTimed with them last night because she's out on the road with him and not all the time because she does have a job, but they always call to FaceTime so they can see the kitties because Wolf and Dre have really missed their kitties very much and I'm taking care of them."
Bertinelli shared that Wolfgang is "committed" to his cats and because of this, he and his wife are "going to be the best parents."
The actress welcomed Wolfgang in 1991 with then-husband Eddie Van Halen. While she and Eddie divorced in 2007, she maintained a close relationship with her son.
"Besides the fact that he is ridiculously talented, I'm most proud of his kindness and thoughtfulness," she told PEOPLE during a joint interview with Wolfgang in June 2021. "I think we both like to find humor in the absurd. This world is a seriously crazy place and it's easier to get through it by finding it funny and absurd. Sometimes laughing is better than crying."
Wolfgang added, "My girlfriend and I pretty much go over to my mom's house every day to see her and play with her cats that we love."
"I think a lot of people don't understand how sarcastic our relationship is," he continued. "One time, she burnt onion rings. And it’s like, she has a cooking show, so I just made fun of her for it. I asked her if I could post it. We get in GIF battles all the time on Twitter. Sarcasm is a language, And that's how we communicate!"
Wolfgang also followed in his dad's footsteps and became a musician. The two played together for over a decade in Van Halen. Eddie died on Oct. 6, 2020 from throat cancer at age 65.
Since then, Wolfgang leads as the frontman in a band called Mammoth. They were nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2022 for their song "Distance."
"Now looking back, it's like how could I saddle some man with Wolfgang and Van Halen?" she said about Wolfgang's talent on The Drew Barrymore Show. "It's like, what if he doesn't become a musician? But the thing is, our house always had instruments, like there was guitars on every wall; there was a piano; there was a drum set."
Bertinelli continued, "So even as a little baby before he could walk, you could see if you watch the 'Distance' video, you can see him just constantly plucking on strings and just fascinated by what Ed was doing on the guitar. It was always in him."
Now, all grown up, Wolfgang first met Allsop, 36, through Instagram. Years later, they got married in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home in 2023.
"At the time that it felt funny, but now in hindsight seeing like what has developed with the way people meet now, it's not that uncommon anymore," he said on the talk show.
"We went to get sushi and then we ended up watching the stars in Malibu in a hammock and we laid there for like four hours and we probably saw like six shooting stars," Wolfgang recalled. "If you were, like, one of those superstitious people it's like, 'Oh yeah, like the universe is telling us that like we're stupid to ignore any of the signs.' "
Wolfgang has since embraced the married life, adopting some cats and playing video games right after the wedding. "We couldn't really get a honeymoon 'cause we didn't really have the time. So hopefully we'll be able to do that at some point. So we just had to settle for our 'homeymoon,' as we called it. But yeah, that was certainly my happy place this past week. And I'm gonna miss it when I'm on tour," he said on I-Rock 93.5 via Blabbermouth.
When asked about the prospect of children though, Wolfgang said "we'll have to see" as he continues having a busy schedule.
He shared, "Honestly, I've got my hands full right now, for sure. But certainly, I think that... I would like to. But I've gotta figure out my career and stuff first."
