Sir David Jason has graced our screens for decades - but a huge part of the star's personality is apparently misunderstood by the public.

Sir David, 85, is best known for beloved TV roles such as Del Boy Trotter in Only Fools and Horses as well as Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost, to name a few.

Given how many iconic characters he's played, fans have naturally wondered what the star is like in real life.

Writing on Digital Spy's forum, a user penned how they'd been told the actor was surprisingly 'quite a rude person.'

However, another person soon shot back against this, explaining that Sir David is shy and reserved.

They wrote: 'David Jason is a very private person and doesn't feel very comfortable with all the attention he gets.'

In the early series of Only Fools, David and Nicholas Lyndhurst co-starred with Lennard Pearce, playing Grandad.

Another remarked: 'I have met David Jason - it was in a bar after a work assignment - and he was lovely, really nice and friendly.

'However he is a very private person and actually quite shy which can sometimes come over as rudeness.'

It comes after another fan also recently opened up about what Sir David is like away from the cameras.

They posted on discussion site Reddit: 'My mate's dad was good friends with David and used to run a B&B in Weston-super-Mare.'

'Over the years, "Uncle David" would pop by now and then and my mate would also see him at family gatherings and events.'

They continued: 'As you can imagine, whenever he showed up, people couldn't resist asking him to "do a bit of Del Boy".

'He always politely declined, until one unforgettable occasion. After a bit of friendly badgering, David finally gave in.

'My mate said he took a deep breath and in that moment, everything about him changed - his posture, his expression, even the way he stood.

'It was like Del Boy had walked into the room. For the next 20 minutes, Del Boy was the life of the party, giving everyone a performance they'd never forget.'

It comes as Sir David is set to reunite with some of his Only Fools castmates for a special project.

A new two-part documentary series titled Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive will include new interviews with cast and crew members.

Alongside Sir David, it will feature Tessa Peake-Jones (Raquel), Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra) and Sue Holderness (Marlene).

Joining them are supporting cast members Steven Woodcock (Jevon) and Denis Lill (Alan Parry).

These much-loved familiar faces will take a stroll down memory lane by watching long-lost moments, sharing poignant reactions and paying tribute to creator John Sullivan, who passed away in 2011.

There will also be plenty of unseen clips and behind-the-scenes footage for fans to devour.

Viewers will be able to tune into the documentary when it airs on U&Gold in 2026.
