Kate Hudson took a walk down memory lane as she revealed excerpts from her deeply personal childhood journals during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
The actress, who recently earned her second Oscar nomination for her latest film Song Sung Blue, admitted she was hesitant to revisit the diaries, which she admitted were far 'too revealing' to comfortably share.
'I've been journaling since I was like eight,' Hudson explained, before confessing she nearly backed out of bringing the notebooks altogether. 'I started looking through them and I'm like, "I can't read these. I can't read them."'
According to Hudson, the journals were packed with early romantic musings - and a surprising amount of emotional intensity for someone so young.
'I was like a little girl writing Sabrina Carpenter songs,' she joked, adding that many of the entries focused on feelings and experiences she 'shouldn't know about.'
Host Jimmy Kimmel quickly zeroed in on a recurring theme in her writing, prompting Hudson to admit she's been 'boy crazy' for most of her life.
'Oh, I've been boy crazy literally since 1980,' she laughed, noting that even her most recent journal entries still revolve around romance.
Despite her nerves, Hudson ultimately agreed to read aloud one of the songs she penned at age 12.
'The touch of a hand, the whimper of a kiss,' she read, before stopping herself to clarify, 'Hadn't kissed. I have no idea.'
As she continued, Hudson appeared equal parts amused and mortified by the dramatic tone of the lyrics, which referenced lingering sensations, emotional hauntings and 'the faint, sweet smell of yesterday's last dance.'
Kimmel reacted with a stunned 'Wow,' while Hudson laughed through the moment, marveling at how intense her inner world was at such a young age.
The actress went on to say she could never fully revisit all of her journals the way her former How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costar Matthew McConaughey did while writing Greenlights, admitting the vulnerability would be overwhelming.
Still, the late-night host floated the idea of turning the childhood poem into something more, suggesting Hudson workshop the song and return to perform it with the show's band.
'I will sing this song,' Hudson agreed, embracing the full-circle moment.

Earlier in the interview, Hudson reflected on her full-circle career moment, noting that her new Oscar nomination arrived exactly 25 years after her first nod for Almost Famous, when she was just 21 years old.
'It's wild,' she said of the milestone. 'Twenty-five years ago, Almost Famous. Twenty-five years.'
Hudson also shared memories of growing up without an LA football team, explaining why she remains a loyal Denver Broncos fan after spending part of her childhood in Colorado during the John Elway era.
While disappointed by the team's playoff exit, she said she's still planning a big Super Bowl party, complete with tacos, dips, and a strict ban on her brother, Oliver Hudson, bringing his elaborate grill.
'He'll last 30 minutes at that grill,' she joked. 'Then he'll start drinking and it'll be a disaster.'
The actress also opened up about buying back the Los Angeles home she grew up in - a 1930s property originally built by Frankenstein director James Whale - admitting she may still need 'to unpack that in therapy.'
'I feel my grandma and my grandpa in that house,' Hudson said. 'I feel so much in that house.'
Toward the end of the conversation, Hudson reflected on attending awards shows with her famous parents, or rather, not being allowed to, and lending clothes to her mother, Goldie Hawn, including one infamous halter dress that reportedly fell off at a party.
As for the upcoming Oscars, Hudson confirmed she plans to bring her mom as her date.
'How can I not bring my mom?' she said. 'I really want to.'
