Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher has opened up on the 'traumatic time' that saw him and his wife Liz forced out of their family home after a devastating event.

Kelvin, 42, who is joined by Liz and his children on TV series Fletchers' Family Farm, took to Lorraine to reveal how they were moved into temporary accommodation.

The ITV show follows the family during their daily life as first-time farmers after they moved to a remote area of the Peak District.

Tragedy struck for the Strictly Come Dancing star when a devastating fire took place at their 120-acre farm in Wincle, Cheshire, while they were away on holiday.

The blaze left their home unable to live in, meaning that for half a year, they were living in a temporary house as they prepared their beloved farm for renovation.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled show alongside wife Liz, 41, Kelvin recalled the heartbreaking event, admitting 'life throws curveballs'.

He said: 'That's life, you know. Yes, it's idyllic and this great sense of escapism but life does throw curveballs and that was a big curveball for us.

'Looking back it was quite a traumatic time but as ever you try to take out the positives and look forward.

'We've got a big rebuild about to start but I've been wanting to show that in the show - that the show is our lives, so the good, the bad, the overwhelmingly.

'It's positive because we're in a really great place now.'

Kelvin's wife Liz also let out a spoiler for the upcoming series, revealing that Lorraine, 66, was due to make a cameo appearance on the show.

Liz teased: 'You're on the next episode, actually, because... a little Spoiler alert, we actually film us doing a live VT, so you see the behind the scenes.'

It comes after Kelvin Fletcher's wife admitted that she's not his 'dream woman' as she got real about married life on an episode of Fletchers' Family Farm.

The Christmas special saw the family head to Austria and they stayed with the Achrainer family, and matriarch Martina gave Liz a baking lesson.

Kelvin Fletcher's wife joked that she's not his 'dream woman' as she got real about married life on Sunday's episode of Fletchers' Family Farm.

After making the tasty treats, Liz said to camera: ‘That was so fascinating and it’s so good to see that they have this real farmer’s wife tradition. And they keep this tradition and they cook to celebrate…

‘And actually, that’s probably Kelvin’s dream woman.’

As she giggled to herself, she added: ‘A farmer’s wife… and he got me, and I can’t cook.’

Kelvin and Liz, who have known each other since they were young, started dating in 2009. The pair got engaged in 2014 and tied the knot the following year.

They bought their farm back in 2021 after originally planning to move to California, but Covid stopped them from doing so.

And the couple have documented how it’s been on their shows Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure and Fletchers’ Family Farm.

Previously speaking on BBC Breakfast about their move, Kelvin said: ‘I think for me, I personally don’t want to seek any sort of validation elsewhere.

‘I know how valued we are as a family and what we do in our small family farm, and I share that with every other family farm.

‘You take great pride in producing food and having a real acknowledgement towards nature, towards the habitat.

‘You’re a custodian of the land, and it’s a privilege.’

He also told Country and Town House last year: ‘I think that’s what has been amazing about filming an observational documentary.

‘There were a lot of considerations initially: as actors, to invite a film crew into your personal space, in a situation that you’re still figuring out yourself. There were some serious considerations there.

‘But we did it as honestly as we could, and what we got out of it was, first and foremost, an amazing TV show.

‘The audience reception we’ve had has been absolutely incredible, and it has resonated with so many people.

‘But we can also look back and think, ‘we’ve captured that moment’.

‘We’ve really got that documented in such a beautiful way that we will have forever. And the fact that people have enjoyed watching it is just the biggest of bonuses.’

Fletchers' Family Farm airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
