Kody Brown's daughter Madison Brush gave an insight into the polygamist family's finances before they became famous on the hit TLC series Sister Wives.
Madison, 29, who Kody shares with ex-wife Janelle Brown, said the family was 'very poor' before starring on the series, as she appeared on the Authentic Society podcast on Monday. She also shared that her father often invested in 'get-rich-quick schemes.'
"My dad always chose the get-rich-quick scheme, almost always," she said.
'And that was something, that was such a foreign thought to Caleb,' Madison stated, in reference to her husband Caleb Brush, adding, 'And I remember explaining some ideas to him and he was like, "No, no."
"Before the show, we were very poor. I think my dad made decent money but we had 15 kids," she said.
Madison added that her father was a sign salesman and involved in various investments even after the show started. She noted that all of Kody's wives prioritized spending over saving.
"When we got our tax returns when we were younger, my parents immediately spent it on something," she said. "Caleb's family were both educated and they did not. They saved it. They saved every penny they could."
However, Madison mentioned her mom is relatively good with money. Together with her mom Janelle Brown, Madison recently started Taeda Farms property and flower farm business.
Sister Wives debuted on TLC in 2010 and chronicled Kody’s polygamous family life including his marriage dynamics with Robyn Brown and departures of other wives: Janelle, Christine, and Meri.
"I actually didn't have a wedding dress," Janelle revealed during a confessional about her own nuptials to Kody due to familial estrangement over polygamy practices.
"My mom was at the wedding because she came to save me from polygamy but ended up marrying Kody's dad three months before we got married."
Kody recently expressed feeling 'slapped in the face by polygamy' after three of his four wives left him; his only remaining marriage is to Robyn.
