MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A person from Venezuela was shot by federal officials in north Minneapolis Wednesday night. This comes exactly a week after an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Good.

The Department of Homeland Security, in a statement, said federal officers were conducting "a targeted traffic stop" around 6:50 p.m. Sources told FOX 9 the shooting happened in the 600 block of 24th Avenue North in Minneapolis.

FOX News reporter Bill Melugin, citing law enforcement sources, says ICE was involved in the shooting. He is told ICE was making contact with a person who then allegedly assaulted an officer. Shots were fired, and the suspect ran. Melugin says the person is believed to be Venezuelan and is stable. They are now in custody.

The Associated Press is reporting, citing sources, the person was shot in the leg after they attacked the federal office with a shovel during an arrest.

Crowds are growing to join protests after another person was shot by ICE in Minneapolis. Protesters are shouting at ICE agents, telling them to leave.

There are protesters at the scene of the shooting. Authorities deployed chemical irritants on the crowd.

One person who was hit by the irritants said it was "very painful." He said they want ICE out of Minneapolis.

DHS released a statement about the shooting:
"At 6:50 PM CT, federal law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis of an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.
"In an attempt to evade arrest, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car. The subject then fled on foot.
"The law enforcement officer caught up to the subject on foot and attempted to apprehend him when the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer. While the subject and law enforcement were in a struggle on the ground, two subjects came out of a nearby apartment and also attacked the law enforcement officer with a snow shovel and broom handle.
"As the officer was being ambushed and attacked by the two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick.
"Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired defensive shots to defend his life. The initial subject was hit in the leg.
"All three subjects ran back into the apartment and barricaded themselves inside.
"The attacked officer and subject are both in the hospital. Both attackers are in custody.
"This attack on another brave member of law enforcement took place while Minnesota's top leaders, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, are actively encouraging an organized resistance to ICE and federal law enforcement officers.
"Their hateful rhetoric and resistance against men and women who are simply trying to do their jobs must end. Federal law enforcement officers are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest criminals and lawbreakers."

Law enforcement are using flash bangs and tear gas on protesters at the scene.

Minneapolis City Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw said she responded to calls from constituents who were reporting the shooting. She found out it involved ICE agents when she arrived.

Tear gas was then deployed when the crowd began to grow.

Vetaw says the shooting did not involve Minneapolis police.

While this isn't her ward, she believes it is her purpose to get the situation calmed down and make sure everyone has the correct information.

She adds that the situation is "getting scarier and scarier."

There is a large police presence at the scene of the reported shooting.
