Cyrus and Hemsworth had a rocky relationship that eventually led to their divorce in 2020.

In a Sept. 24 interview with Vogue, the Grammy winner talked about era fashion symbolizing a "true evolution" in her life and revealed that she still, in fact, does own clothing from when she was in a relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth.

"I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband, and then I have my dress that I wore on our first date," she admitted. "Along with letters and things that I really, I want to savor these kind of beautiful moments of my life, but because these intimate moments have also been public moments, it's a little bit tough to decide what piece I want to share and what I would ever allow to be seen."

The Drive-Away Dolls actress, 32, found the sentimental items while "deep in the inventory and organization" of her life's archives while "creating a legacy rack, which is a couple of looks from every era that I would want to be remembered," she explained.

"Everything I do in my life is a little bit intense, but it has to be holistic. And that's why my eras, they're not a costume, they're actually like a metamorphosis or a true evolution for me personally."

Cyrus and Hemsworth met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song and shortly after filming wrapped, the two confirmed their romance with a PDA-filled goodbye at the airport. From then on, the two were in an on-again, off-again relationship until Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus in 2012 with a 3.5-carat ring from Neil Lane.

The stars had called off their engagement in September 2013 after postponing their wedding the April prior. Although, in 2016, they reconciled, resumed their engagement (with a new ring on Cyrus' finger) and tied the knot in December 2018 with her confirming the milestone on Instagram with a photo of the two kissing on the day.

Their relationship took a turn in 2019 when they separated. "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy." Cyrus' rep told PEOPLE at the time, with Hemsworth confirming the news on Instagram three days later.

Hemsworth filed for divorce in August 2019, citing "irreconcilable differences." A source close to Cyrus told PEOPLE that the singer "didn't expect" Hemsworth to file. On Jan. 28, 2020, Cyrus and Hemsworth finalized their divorce, declaring the two legally single on Feb. 22.

That same year, Cyrus did an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and spoke about how the public divorce "f------ sucked."

"What really sucked about it wasn't the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don't love each other the way that we used to anymore," Cyrus shared. "That's okay. I can accept that. I can't accept the villainizing and just all those stories."

Fans have also speculated that Cyrus' recent music has hinted at her romance with Hemsworth, including alleged cheating.
