STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mark Mitchell scored 17 points and Shawn Phillips Jr. scored 16 points Saturday afternoon, as Missouri walloped Mississippi State 88-64 for the Tigers' fourth Southeastern Conference road win this season.
The Tigers have won six of the past eight games -- included wins against then-19th-ranked Vanderbilt and 22nd-ranked Tennessee -- and clinched their third 20-win season in four year under coach Dennis Gates.
"Our team definitely has grown," Missouri coach Dennis Gates said on the KTGR postgame show with audio provided by Mizzou Athletics. "To be able to have a victory of this magnitude on the road after a great and unbelievable win at home, it just shows the characteristics and the character of our team, and I'm proud of them."
Anthony Robinson II came off the bench to score 13 points. Trent Pierce and T.O. Barrett each added 10 points and Jayden Stone grabbed 10 rebounds -- all on the defensive end -- for the Tigers (20-9, 10-6 SEC).
"That was definitely a team victory," Gates said. "I thought our guys executed the game plan from the very beginning to the very end."
All eight Missouri players scored, each playing at least 17 minutes, and five players reached double figures in the scoring column.
"Our team is now jelling and able to move forward," Gates said, noting that process took longer this season due to early-season injuries.
Missouri led 54-23 at halftime on the strength of 61.3-percent shooting (19-for-31). The Tigers finished shooting 51 percent (30-for-59).
Josh Hubbard scored 16 points and Quincy Ballard scored 12 points for Mississippi State (13-16, 5-11).
Missouri scored the game's first nine points and never looked back. Trent Burns made a jump shot with 13:49 remaining before halftime and the Tigers led by double digits for the rest of the game.
"I was just letting the game come to me," said Burns, who played a career-high 19 minutes off the bench and finished with eight points and five rebounds for Missouri. "Since I've been here, my teammates have been pouring confidence in me and it's starting to show now."
Mitchell's layup with 9:14 before the break made it 30-10. Barrett made two free throws with 2:07 left in the half and the lead was 50-19.
Missouri will try to end its two-game losing streak at Oklahoma on Tuesday. The Tigers last won in Norman on Feb. 6, 2012, their last season in the Big 12 Conference.
"That's a very tough team that we play on Tuesday at Oklahoma," Gates said. "... We'll debrief and learn what we need to learn from this game and then move forward."
Mississippi State travels to face No. 7 Florida on Tuesday.
