OCEAN CITY -- The city Planning Board is set to hear an amended plan for 105 Eighth St., where a three-story, mixed-use building is proposed to replace a now-vacant century-old structure.

The modifications proposed by Shorelife Development LLC to planning approvals granted in 2014 include changes to the windows, roof and interior. The Planning Board is set to hear the request at 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 861 Asbury Ave. on the third floor.

The current building stands in the shadow of one of Ocean City's water towers and has formerly housed a dry cleaner, an auto mechanic, and other uses.

A development company previously received approvals for a new building at the site of a 100-year-old structure on Eighth Street in Ocean City, once the home of an almost-forgotten fraternal organization.

The building began as Red Men Hall, the meeting place for a fraternal organization that once counted some of the city's most influential men as members. Red Men lodges still exist across the country, but Ocean City's lodge disappeared decades ago.

The existing building is expected to come down after the summer. Ocean City has a moratorium on demolitions during its busiest months.

The new building is expected to have six residential units and commercial space, as well as 17 parking spaces.
