The parks of South Ribble are coming alive this summer with a whole series of outdoor events and attractions planned by the council.

Parks Alive sees outdoor theatre performances including a Shakespeare play and an appearance by Peter Rabbit.

A whole host of back to nature events are planned ranging from a five-and-a-half miles walk to activity camps.

Or you can bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy some of Lancashire's finest brass bands most Sundays in the summer.

The programme which sees events take place, mostly on a Sunday, starting on 24 May with Bubble Blast at Worden Park, Leyland which features some of the region's best bubble entertainers.

On the same day, the park's first brass band concert will take place with more performances scheduled at various parks in South Ribble until late August.

Another attraction is the 5-Park Amble a five-and-half mile walk led by the Friends of South Ribble Parks, that encompasses some of South Ribble's "finest and interesting" parks and urban green spaces starting and finishing in Hurst Grange Park in Penwortham on 28 June.

If live theatre is your passion, A Place for Us Theatre Company presents two of the Shakespeare's most read and loved plays - Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet - on the lawns of Worden Hall, Worden Park, on 28 July.

While on 27 August, The Quantum Theatre Co brings Peter Rabbit and his friends to life on the same lawns.

For those youngsters who want to grapple with nature, Forest Friend Adventures at Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve Visitor Centre, Longton, promises two 90 minute woodland based activity camps that include woodland craft making, scavenger hunting, den building, the mud kitchen and even marshmallow toasting.

The summer programme concludes with one more Bubble Blast event at Worden Park in Leyland on Bank Holiday Monday in August.

Most events are free although both theatrical events are paid tickets only.

People planning to join the 5-Park Amble must register for this free event which is unsuitable for wheelchair users, mobility vehicles and prams/push chairs.

Registration for children who must be accompanied by an adult is also needed for the Forest Friend Adventures.
