Australian police are investigating claims that Katy Perry sexually assaulted Ruby Rose more than a decade ago.

Victoria Police said in a statement issued to Newsweek on Wednesday: "Melbourne sexual offenses and child abuse investigation team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating [an alleged] historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.

"Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne's CBD [Central Business District]. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

Actor Ruby Rose, 40, accused the pop star, 41, of assaulting her in Melbourne in 2010. Perry has since vehemently denied the allegations. Newsweek reached out to a representative for Katy Perry for comment via email.

Rose, known for her roles in Orange Is the New Black and Batwoman, shared a series of accusatory posts on April 12 on Threads about the singer's conduct in response to a post by music outlet Complex.

"Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s* what she thinks," Rose said.

In the post, she graphically described the alleged incident, claiming Perry "pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her."

She said she framed what unfolded as a "funny little drunk story" since she "didn't know how else to handle it."

She later shared: "Hi! Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved. It's going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people's experiences, but I'm not. This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporarily move forward. I love you all so much."

Perry's team issued a statement to Variety, strongly denying the allegations.

"The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies. Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named," the statement read.

On August 6, 2010, it was reported the duo were out together at the Grand Hyatt, where Perry crashed Melbourne High School's year 12 formal to perform before going on to the club Spice Market.
