SUNNYSIDE -- West Valley's softball team wasted little time in getting going during a CBBN doubleheader at Sunnyside on Thursday.
The Rams scored seven runs in the first on their way to a 24-1 Game 1 win and nine in the opening frame of a 16-3 nightcap victory over the Grizzlies.
Ainsley Johnson struck out eight over four innings in the opener, allowing a run on two hits while going 3-for-3, doubling and driving in a pair at the plate. Freshman Tatum Trammel, who would throw a complete game in the nightcap, doubled twice in Game 1 as she piled up six RBI. Taryn Bernd hit a two-bagger in both halves of the sweep, driving in a total of five runs.
Sunnyside's Makenna Castro tripled in Game 1 and Grayce Morris did so twice in the second game.
The Rams (5-1 CBBN, 11-3 overall) will play its nonleague finale against Kittitas on Wednesday, while the Grizzlies (2-6, 7-7) will continue CBBN action at Eastmont on April 24.

COLLEGE PLACE 7-17, ZILLAH 0-7: At College Place, Madyson Morrison had three hits across the two Leopard losses, doubling in the nightcap. Zillah (2-8, 4-8) will wrap nonleague play with a home twin bill against Prosser on Tuesday.
In nonleague play, Sunnyside Christian split with Almira-Coulee-Hartline, losing 15-13 before winning 14-4.
