Princess Eugenie made sure to dip into a deep curtsy when King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at Royal Ascot's fourth day of races.
The King, 76, and Queen, 77, arrived at the event on Friday, June 20, in the royal carriage procession. Although no members of the royal family joined that day's traditional parade to the race grounds, plenty were inside and ready to greet the couple.
Eugenie -- who was spotted with her husband, Jack Brooksbank -- was among the attendees, and she was photographed saying hello to Queen Camilla with a low curtsy. Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter, 35, might be a princess herself, but royals are known to bow or curtsy when greeting the King or Queen as a sign of respect. Even King Charles' own children follow suit, and Prince William has often been seen bowing to greet his father and stepmother.
Despite the tradition of bowing and curtsying, Charles and Camilla often take a less formal approach and greet family members with kisses or hugs. Such was the case at Royal Ascot, where King Charles was seen giving Princess Eugenie a kiss on her hand.
King Charles' other niece Zara Tindall, 44, was also on the guest list at Royal Ascot on Friday, and she was also seen giving a curtsy while sporting a stylish pale blue suit with a coordinating headpiece.
Sarah Ferguson, Eugenie's mother and the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, also joined the royals at Royal Ascot for an exciting day that saw the King's horse Purple Rainbow compete.
The latest royal day at the races comes after Kate Middleton pulled out of her anticipated return to the event after missing last year's amid her cancer treatment.
On Wednesday, June 18, the Princess of Wales was expected to attend Royal Ascot, and her name appeared on the list of people who would ride in the carriage procession. However, about 20 minutes later, it was revealed that Princess Kate would not attend the event.
A corrected list was quickly distributed. PEOPLE understands that despite a change being made to the royals' attendance, an inaccurate carriage listing was mistakenly initially issued by Royal Ascot. The Prince and Princess of Wales were initially said to be riding in the second carriage, but instead, Prince William sat next to Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia with King Charles and Queen Camilla in the first carriage when they arrived on Wednesday.
Princess Kate was said to be disappointed not to be able to attend Royal Ascot, but those close to her point out that she is finding the right balance as she works towards returning to public engagements following her cancer treatment.
