SAGINAW, MI -- A look at the high school sports scene in the Saginaw area for Jan. 14, 2026.

Not known for its long-range shooting strength, Hemlock drilled seven 3-pointers for the second game in a row and rolled past Merrill 67-31.

Employing just an eight-player roster, the Huskies showed their stamina while out-playing Merrill in the non-conference clash. Hemlock (5-7) led 35-16 by halftime and eclipsed the 65-point mark for the second straight game.

"Even though the threes were dropping, I like that we got back to getting the ball inside in the third quarter," Hemlock coach Matt Bauer said.

Dawson Davenport led the charge with 15 points while Cal McFadden and Kellan Schultz each scored 13 and Gavin Schmidt added nine. McFadden hauled down nine rebounds and Schultz eight.

Hunter Wiley paced Merrill with 16 points and Mason Marlow added eight.

BOYS BKB: SAGINAW MLS 66, COLEMAN 37

Michigan Lutheran Seminary was attack from all angles, getting eight or more points five different sources in a 66-37 win over Coleman.

The Cardinals stormed to a 25-6 after one quarter and never relented in the non-league win.

Zach Scharrer led the way with 12 points while Andrew Miller scored 11, Noah Reif 10 and Jaeken Boyd and Ray Tanner eight apiece. Miller and Tommy Luetzow each hauled down nine rebounds.

Coleman was paced by Logan Glazier with 13 points and Brennan Glazier with 12 points behind four 3-pointers.

The Tigers drilled 12 3-pointers, including eight in the second half, to vault past Unionville-Sebewaing Area 69-59 in a key Big Thumb Conference White matchup.

Five different players hit triples for Caro (8-2, 3-1), fronted by the 1-2 punch of Connor McGarry and Ethan Kocher. McGarry finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the win while Kocher dropped in 20 points and nine rebounds. Landon Stine notched 12 points and Xander Grice eight in the win.

USA (4-6, 1-3) led 17-12 after one quarter and 24-23 at the half, propelled by a 30-point performance from Justin Jacobs. Davis Peters added 17 points for the Patriots.

BOYS BKB: CASS CITY 53, VASSAR 43

Kenton Nicholas sank three 3-pointers in the pivotal third quarter, sparking Cass City to a 53-43 victory over Vassar in Big Thumb Conference White play.

Nicholas finished with 16 points, helping the Red Hawks (5-4, 3-1) extend their lead to 38-28 through three quarters with his hot hand from long range. Griffin Weiler scored nine points and Will Perry seven in the win.

Vassar (2-8, 0-4) wielded a three-pronged attack with Mike Olivarez scoring 15 points, Kris Cerda 14 and Madix Gorleski 12.

BOYS BKB: MERIDIAN 42, STANDISH 40

In a game where neither team could find an offensive groove, Sanford Meridian got on the winning track for a 42-40 victory over Standish-Sterling.

Standish-Sterling owned a 20-19 edge at halftime but saw Jack Pine Conference-2 co-leader Meridian tip the scales with a 9-4 third-quarter advantage.

The Mustangs (9-2, 6-1) got 12 points from Josiah Prince and 10 apiece from Brady Bowen and Alijah Frazier in the win. Standish (6-6, 4-3) was led by Karter Fegan with 17 points and Landon Nixon with 12.

GIRLS BKB: BRECKENRIDGE 51, BAY CITY CENTRAL 37

Breckenridge didn't back down from a school with more than four times its enrollment, outdueling Bay City Central 51-37 in a rare matchup.

Central (1-8) led 14-10 after one quarter but saw Breckenridge (6-3) dominate the middle quarters with a 30-8 spree.

Maddie Breece delivered 21 points and seven rebounds to spark Breckenridge. Bella Aldrich added nine points while Lydia Slavik notched nine rebounds.

The Wolves sent nine players into the scoring column in their highest-scoring game of the season but couldn't keep pace. Brynn Corrion tallied 11 points for Central and Addison Sirianni added nine.

HOCKEY: TRI-VALLEY 6, THUMB LEGION 5

The Tri-Valley Thunder went the distance and beyond, outlasting the Thumb Legion 6-5 in overtime.

Max Miller led the Thunder with two goals while Jake Rau, Beckett Pruden, Kwess Mathews and Connor Wilcox scored one goal apiece. Rau notched three assists in the win while Solomon Harris had two and Pruden one.
