Sally Nugent gasped 'we'll be in trouble!' and cried out for Carol Kirwood's help after an awkward Children In Need gaffe live on Tuesday's episode of BBC Breakfast.

The 54-year-old returned to the red sofa for the latest instalment of the show alongside her co-host Jon Kay, 56.

The pair discussed the latest news and headlines, including how Doctor Who fans can get their hands on props and memorabilia from the BBC series.

Some bits include a c, a sonic screwdriver, Bonnie Langford's Vespa and a live size Tardis.

Jon explained: 'It's the first time these items have gone on sale...'

He then continued: 'Good news, all the profits, whoever buys them, however much they spend...'

Sally joked: 'We'd be in trouble!' and then went on to handover to her co-star Carol who was about to present her weather segment

He then realised that he had slipped up and confessed: 'Oh. Not all the profits, some of the profits... go to Children in Need.'

Sally added: 'We've just made it all of the profits, so there we go!'

'Now they've got to give all of the money, we've forced them,' Jon explained.

Sally gasped: 'We'll be in trouble!' and then went on to handover to her co-star Carol, who was about to present her weather segment.

She added: 'Carol, help!'

Carol confessed: 'I don't know, quite fancy the Dalek or the Tardis!'

A shocked Sally asked: 'Would you?!'

'You fancy a Dalek?!' Jon asked her.

Sally told him: 'Oh Jon, don't say that.'

It comes after Carol fought back tears as she revealed last Tuesday that she will leave BBC in April after more than 25 years with the broadcaster.

The star struggled to get her words out as she announced the news on BBC Breakfast this morning - immediately after delivering the latest on Storm Chandra.

Met Office-trained Carol choked up as she joined presenters Sally and Jon on the programme's sofa and said: 'So, I'm going to be leaving - and it's really hard, really hard for me to say this because I love my job.

'But it's great - I don't want to be coming in in my Zimmer frame and saying, "I can't reach the Northern Isles anymore!".'

Carol, who hails from Morar on the west coast of Scotland near the Isle of Skye, says she plans to spend more time with her husband, police officer Steve Randall, whom she wed at the end of 2023.

'We only got married a couple of years ago and we're ships that pass in the night so I'm so looking forward to doing that,' she said, adding that the pair hope to travel, and she will be able to spend more time writing novels, having already published five.

Carol had kept the news of her departure secret from everyone - including her friends and her colleagues at BBC Breakfast.

She added with a smile: 'I love my job, I've loved working at the BBC, but I love my husband more than my job.'

Turning to Sally and Jon, she added: 'I didn't want to get emotional but you two are my friends and I love you dearly.'

As Carol finished delivering the news, Sally held her hand and Jon reached for a box of tissues, before both giving her a tight hug.

Sally joked: 'There's one important thing that we haven't mentioned, which is that you are going to get a lie in.'

Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am and is available to stream on iPlayer.
