Update, Tuesday Feb. 17: This article has been updated with details on a second Samsung short promoting the Galaxy S26 Ultra's low-light capabilities.
Ahead of Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event and the launch of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26, the South Korean company has teased a new feature that will help the new flagship stand out against the competition.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra Can Hide Your Display
Posted on the morning of Monday, 16 Feb. 2026, the short, called "We don't scroll and tell", shows a typical commute and someone looking over someone else's shoulder to read their screen. At which point a toggle switch appears - presumably mirroring an on-screen option - for Zero-Peeking Privacy. This blacks out the screen.
It's a simple demonstration of the idea behind Samsung's new privacy layer on its upcoming smartphones. It limits the paths of light from the display, so you need to be directly in front of the screen to make out the content. If you are shoulder-surfing, glancing from the side, or trying to look from any other direction, you will simply see a black screen.
Not shown in the short, but described in Samsung's blog post about the privacy technology, is the ability to limit individual parts of the screen, perhaps the keyboard and a password dialog box, entering a passcode for a banking app, or any other scenario that can be considered.
Samsung Using AI To Promote Galaxy S26 Ultra Low-Light Capabilities
Update, Tuesday Feb. 17: Samsung continues to use short social media videos to promote its upcoming features. The latest is "Brighten your after hours." It shows two skateboards with shopping bags heading down a cobbled street. During the video, a low-light mode effect sweeps in from the side. The short then cheekily asks, "Can your phone do that?" across the screen. Meanwhile, in smaller type along the bottom, is the disclaimer "this content was generated with the assistance of AI tools."
There's no further detail on what is being used and in what capacity. "Assistance" is doing a lot of lifting here. I am left wondering why the video was not "Shot on Galaxy", which would have been a statement in itself on top of what was on screen. Halloween 2023 saw Apple run an entire campaign called "Shot on iPhone." Yes, there was rather a lot of lighting, steadicam rigs, and camera frames, but the iPhone sat at the centre.
Galaxy AI is expected to play a part in next week's Galaxy Unpacked launch event. It will be interesting to see if any more AI-assisted videos show up over the next seven days.
When Will Samsung Launch The Galaxy S26 Ultra?
Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Unpacked dates last week, Wednesday, 25 Feb. 2026. This event will feature the three Galaxy S26 handsets and the upcoming Galaxy Buds 4. The expectation around Samsung's updated smartphone is that the hardware changes will be evolutionary, focusing on creating a reliable experience rather than a revolutionary one.
Yet there will still be surprises, innovation, and expertise on show, such as this privacy display. I wonder if Samsung is hiding anything else for the Galaxy S26 Ultra's launch?
