The singer and actress, 45, and the Mare of Easttown star, 43, have tied the knot.
Bareilles announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday, Oct. 7, sharing a series of photos from the happy occasion. "We did a big thing," she wrote in the caption. "I will just say I love this man and I love the community who came to hold us up. I am feeling so lucky and so grateful. ❤️ ."
One photo shows the bride wearing a white dress -- featuring cap sleeves and a plunging neckline -- smiling while holding a colorful bouquet. Another captures Tippett beaming in his dark green three-piece groom's suit.
Yet another sweet shot shows Bareilles walking down the aisle, preceded by the couple's dog, who sported a tiny tuxedo with a red bowtie for the occasion.
Ahead of the wedding, Tippett shared an Instagram post revealing that Saturday was the big day. "Marrying My Best Friend Today. May We All Be So Lucky," he wrote alongside a photo of the pair embracing.
Pal Reese Witherspoon commented on the post, "AHHHH! I love this love story 💕."
The newlyweds first met while working together on the musical adaptation of Adrienne Shelly's 2007 film Waitress -- for which Bareilles wrote the score -- during its out-of-town tryout at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in August 2015. They got engaged in January 2023.
The newlyweds shared some of the behind-the-scenes details of the proposal exclusively with PEOPLE at a Waitress, the Musical - Live on Broadway! event at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 12 that year. Tippett explained that the two were on a trip to Mexico at the time and had already bounced around the idea of getting engaged.
"We had been talking about it for quite some time, so it wasn't a surprise or anything. But we were in Mexico City, and she was having a bad day," Tippett recalled.
"We kind of connected and got things back on track. We had been looking for the perfect ring and couldn't find it. And I was like, 'I just want to do it!' So we found this cheap little ring in a market that we both love, and we were like, 'That's the thing for now!' "
Tippett then set the scene for how his romantic proposal unfolded: "We were up on a roof at sunset, the sky was on fire and we were listening to music and slow dancing, and it was like, 'OK, now!' I asked and she said yes and I was like, 'Well f---, I forgot the ring, I have to go down and get it!' So then I came back up, got down on one knee,we did the deal and it was great."
Although it was a spontaneous purchase, Bareilles gushed about her unique ring, a simple gold band designed in the shape of a feather. "I love it. It's just -- it's sweet," she told PEOPLE.
"We were kind of getting sidetracked; we started looking for a ring and then it had to be 'the ring' and we were like, 'The ring is starting to feel more important than the moment.' And we were like, 'F--- it; let's just get a little something.' Like most things, it's really easy to get tricked into caring about the wrong things," Bareilles explained.
"We keep coming back to 'Why are we doing this?' And it's like, 'Oh, because I love you.' "
Bareilles shared her engagement news in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2023. "Yes to marrying this man. It's an easy, earned, relaxed YES," she wrote alongside a photo of herself looking lovingly at her fiancé.
"@joetipps you are exactly who I want. The more I know you the more I know I love you...and you have introduced me to parts of myself I was afraid to love," she continued. "And now I love ME more because of you. So really this is all about me. Just kidding."
She added: "What a gift you are. Let the games begin. Onward into absolutely everything with you. ❤️."
Tippett added his own engagement post, writing, "I'm going to marry this woman. Looking ahead to all of the tomorrows, all the adventures, the laughs, and all of the love. Thank you, my heart."
While Bareilles is known for romantic ballads including "Love Song" and "I Choose You," she insisted that she had no intention of playing her own music at her wedding. "No! Absolutely not," she told PEOPLE in June 2024. "I mostly hear my songs in Bed Bath & Beyond. So I'm going to do somebody else's songs. I don't need to hear mine!"
Back in January, Bareilles revealed her wedding non-negotiables while chatting with PEOPLE at the American Heart Association's Red Dress Collection Concert in New York City.
"The non-negotiables are I want comfortable places to sit," she said. "I want lots of blankets in case it's cold because I hate being cold."
"The food has to be slamming and the music has to be amazing," she added, noting: "I just want [the wedding] to feel just really cozy and warm and inviting."
