GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Gone are the days of random drawings for Michigan's boys high school basketball playoffs, as the Michigan High School Athletic Association has opted to award the state's best teams with a favorable path to the district finals.
The MHSAA released its district tournament pairings and schedule Sunday, and for the sixth consecutive year, the top two teams in each district will receive a first-round bye and start their postseason runs no earlier than the district semifinals.
Seeding was based on the MHSAA's Michigan Power Ratings formula, which accounts for a team's winning percentage, its opponents' winning percentage and its opponents' opponents' winning percentage.
Each team's MPR number was calculated based on its first 12 weeks of competition and does not include the final week of regular season games.
The Grand Rapids-area boys hoops teams to receive a No. 1 district tournament seed this year are Rockford, Hudsonville, Northview, East Kentwood, GR Catholic Central, Covenant Christian, Unity Christian, Potter's House and Tri-unity Christian.
The area's No. 2 seeds, who also receive a first-round bye, are West Ottawa, Grandville, Forest Hills Northern, Byron Center, GR Christian, Kenowa Hills, South Christian, Holland Christian, Calvin Christian and Zion Christian.
Among the area's top unseeded teams are Greenville, Zeeland East, Coopersville, Forest Hills Central and NorthPointe Christian, and those squads would love nothing more than to play the role of district spoiler.
The 2026 boys basketball playoffs begin Monday, Feb. 23, and you can see the full Grand Rapids-area schedule, including tip-off times and pairings, below.
