Spencer Matthews said he believes wife Vogue Williams 'would have left' him if he had carried on with his boozy lifestyle.

The reality TV star, 37, who previously admitted he 'could have died' at the height of his drinking, tied the knot with the presenter, 40, in June 2018 and has been open about his 'bad habits' with alcohol.

Spencer admitted there use to be a 'divide in their relationship' when he kept drinking and he first realised his boozy habits 'weren't normal' when Vogue became pregnant with their first child.

The happy couple share son Theodore, seven, daughter Gigi, five, and son Otto, three.

Speaking on the On the Mend with Matt Willis podcast, Spencer said: 'I was very aware that if I carried on with my drinking and bad habits, that she would get bored, and she would leave me. And I knew that, and she never made that a thing.

'She never sat me down and gave me some kind of ultimatum or anything like that. But I could feel it. I could feel that she was a bit disappointed in me.

'And yes, I think the light was shone on my boozing when she fell pregnant with our firstborn, Theodore. He made a big difference, I think, to our relationship, obviously, because I think what felt like joint fun became solo fun quite quickly because, obviously, she stopped drinking completely.

'And I just didn't; I carried on, and it created this kind of divide in the relationship but also made me realise, you know, maybe my drinking habits are not normal.'

Spencer, who has previously admitted to drinking 10 pints of Guinness a day, revealed how Vogue picked up on his solo drinking which eventually made him question his habits.

He explained: 'And to begin with, I would say, like, 'Darling, we're watching a film, like, of course it's , like , normal to have a few glasses of red wine'.

'Like , we’re at home chilling. And she’s like , ‘You’re drinking on your own’. And I’d be like , ‘Yeah , because you’re pregnant?’ And she’d be like , ‘Well , because I’m not drinking , do you have to , do you have to drink?’ And we’d have the odd chat like that.

‘And you kind of eventually , you just begin to think , why am I drinking on my own? And you begin to question stuff , perhaps for the first time.’

Spencer’s issues with drink were exacerbated by his role on the hit E4 reality show where he was notorious for his booze-fuelled partying and relationship drama.

He previously spoke about his decision to give up alcohol for good and what caused the excessive drinking in the first place on Vogue’s Taboo Talk podcast.

Spencer explained: ‘I always had jobs where being able to handle your drink really well was a huge bonus.

‘I was a trader at ICAP and we would drink five to 10 pints every single day and then take clients out at night and if you couldn’t do that, you wouldn’t get the job, basically.’

With the help of Vogue, the father-of-three recalled the situation he found himself in that made him decide to turn his life around.

He said: ‘I had a moment of clarity when I was drinking on my own at night if Vogue wasn’t around. All of a sudden I was going to bed drunk.

‘One night, when I was alone, I had a bottle of whiskey and struggled to get myself to bed. I was hammered drunk. I remember waking up the next day and I thought, "I don’t need this in my life."

‘If I wasn’t married to someone who didn’t have a great relationship with alcohol, as in you don’t really like it, then my journey would have been more difficult.’

He continued: 'It's not like I just fancied giving up drinking. I could have lost you, I could have lost work, I could have died - not to be overly dramatic about it, but that's the way it was heading.'

Spencer doesn't consider himself an alcoholic as he can now drink in moderation. He said: 'Before, having one glass would have turned into ten and then I'd be out all night.

'I'm sober most of the time now. I've gone from problem-drinking on a daily basis to having a drink if I feel like it very irregularly.

'I no longer see it as a problem. I have great balance in my life.'

It comes after Spencer and Vogue appeared more loved-up than ever as they packed on the PDA amid their lavish family getaway to St Barts.

The ex model and her former Made In Chelsea star husband have jetted off for a spring break on the Caribbean island with children, Theodore, seven, Gigi, five, and Otto, three.

Vogue and Spencer, who wed in 2018, were seen as they shared a sweet kiss while topping up their tans on the beach.

It comes in the wake of Vogue playing down claims of difficulties within their relationship in November, after the couple failed to publicly mark their seventh wedding anniversary - months after Spencer stepped down from their joint podcast, Spencer & Vogue, to focus on his own project, Untapped.

The family enjoyed a cooling dip in the clear ocean before relaxing on a small boat, with Spencer showing off his skills as he performed backflips into the water.

Vogue previously insisted she and her husband are 'happy' and that their marriage is secure, while dispelling past rumours of a potential crisis.

Speaking to The Sun , the presenter said she has reached a point in her life where only 'their truth' matters , stressing that they remain very much a happy couple .

She recalled : ‘When he left our podcast , everyone was like , “What’s going on?”’

Vogue also admitted to worrying about their children hearing the ‘baseless and cruel’ gossip at school .

She had previously addressed the claims in an Instagram post , telling followers : ‘It’s with great sadness that I have to let you know that Spen and I are NOT breaking up!

‘I usually avoid addressing baseless and cruel rumours , but this just keeps coming up .

‘It’s disappointing to see this narrative being pushed almost daily when it’s absolutely not true , and much more importantly , I don’t want my children hearing these lies in the playground .

‘We’re not sure what the angle is or where it’s coming from , but the whole thing feels very strange and mean . We’re very happily married and in love and I hope posting the truth on my own platform might make it stop .’
