The sporty couple selected the picturesque location based on a place they'd never been before.

Tennis couple Denis Shapovalov and Mirjam Björklund have officially tied the knot after a more than two-year engagement.

The pair enjoyed a picturesque outdoor wedding at the Lesante Cape Hotel in Akrotiri, Greece, overlooking the Ionian Sea. The four-day wedding festivities included their closest friends and family, with just 30 guests in total.

"It was truly as amazing as we envisioned when we chose Lesante Cape for our wedding venue," the Swedish bride tells PEOPLE. "The weather was incredible and every moment was picture-perfect. It was the most beautiful start to our marriage and we are so excited to spend forever with each other."
Her Canadian groom agrees, adding, "It was really so special. Every day we had in Zakynthos with our close friends and family was better than we could have ever asked for and I'm so excited I got to marry my best friend in such an incredible setting."

The location was specifically selected as a place the couple had never been before. The bride wore a strapless gown from Ukrainian designer Milla Nova.

"Walking down the aisle, I felt calmer than I expected," Björklund told Vogue Scandinavia. "I was just super excited to marry Denis. He is my best friend, and as I was looking at all our guests, it made me feel butterflies for what was about to happen."

The excited groom agreed, adding, "I thought I would be nervous during these moments, but instead I couldn't hide the smile on my face. Mirjam came out looking absolutely gorgeous in her dress. It's the most joy I've ever felt in my life."

And while Björklund opted not to have bridesmaids, including only her parents in her bridal party, Shapovalov had five groomsmen.

"We did have an unexpected honorary sixth groomsman," Shapovalov said. "One of our guests showed up in the exact same J. Lindeberg suit."

And the couple's beloved dog, Yatzy, got his own tuxedo fit for the special occasion.

For their reception, the pair went all-out with a choreographed first dance routine taken from the movie The Wedding Ringer, complete with Björklund doing a backflip.

"I think all our guests knew we were not going to do a slow dance, but I don't think anyone expected that," Björklund added.

The couple first met in 2019 at the Stockholm Open after Shapovalov recognized Björklund from her photo on the cover of a magazine. He spoke with her sister, who shared that she was single and they began talking over social media.

"It became harder to only stay friends," Björklund told Vogue Scandinavia.

After an injury, Björklund flew to London to visit Shapovalov and their relationship truly began.

They got engaged in 2023 on a beach in Båstad, Sweden. Shapovalov, who had been carrying the ring around for six months, had Björklund's family hiding in the bushes nearby.

All in all, the couple are excited that the wedding will take them into their next chapter of life together.

"It feels like the most beautiful start to our marriage, and we are so excited to spend forever together," Björklund said.
