It's a good week for TV fans as HBO Max has finally launched in the UK - but what are the best shows to watch on the American streaming platform?
HBO shows have historically been housed by Sky Atlantic, or streaming counterpart NOW, but big changes are afoot.
Well, to begin with, Friends is finally available to watch on a UK subscription platform again after it was axed from Netflix at the end of last year.
But the platform also has a host of other offerings including the legendary sitcom The Sopranos that's been hailed as a 'mafia masterpiece', as well as the hit medical drama The Pitt.
Suffice to say new subscribers will have A LOT to delve into in the coming months, so look no further for help planning your next binge-watch.
The Pitt
With the first episode set during a full 24-hour shift in A&E, The Pitt may well be your perfect binge watch this weekend.
According to IMDb, the show follows 'the daily lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients, revealing the resilience required in their noble calling.'
It has an impressive audience rating of 8.9 out of 10 on the platform from over 10,000 reviewers and an even more impressive critical score of 87 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy or Casualty, look no further for your next medical drama obsession.
The Sopranos
If you're looking for more of a classic, old school watch, you can't do much better than The Sopranos.
The classic crime drama aired on HBO between 1999 and 2007 and centres around a New Jersey Mafia boss as he attempts to make a success of his job as a career criminal and his family.
It has an incredible rating of 9.2 out of 10 on IMDb from over half a million viewers and a Rotten Tomatoes critical score of 92 percent.
It's widely lauded as 'the best TV show of all time,' with fans remarking how it has stood the test of time.
But if you're looking for more of a classic watch, you couldn't do much better than The Sopranos.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
If you're a fan of Game of Thrones, which arguably remains one of HBO's biggest successes to date, then its prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is a must-watch.
Its synopsis reads: 'A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, wandered through Westeros while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne, and dragons were still remembered. Great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.'
The show has a solid IMDb audience rating of 8.7 out of 10 from over 200,000 reviews and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent.
Fans loved it's lighter, more comical tone compared to the original GOT, as well as a focus on the low born, instead of just the nobles of Westeros.
Friends
Friends has been a classic since the first episode aired back in 1994 and has since become a classic comfort watch for many.
The sitcom centres around a group of twenty to thirty-something friends as they navigate the ups and downs of life in 1990s New York.
The now-classic has an IMDb rating of 8.8 out of 10 from over a million viewers and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 78 percent.
Fan were bereft when it was removed from Netflix UK earlier this year, but now can rest easy knowing it has a streaming home for Brits.
Six Feet Under
As its name suggests, the drama takes a look at death and dying through the Fisher family, who run their own funeral home in Los Angeles.
The show kicks off when the family patriarch suddenly dies and has been praised for its humour and exploration of difficult topics like grief.
Six Feet Under has an IMDb rating of 8.7 out of 10 from almost 200,000 viewers and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 81 percent.
If you're a fan of dark comedies like Bad Sisters, Deadloch or Beef, you'll love this.
Big Little Lies
If you like crime dramas, Big Little Lies might be the perfect watch for you - and it stars the iconic Reese Witherspoon.
The show centres around three suburban mothers whose lives are turned upside down when they find themselves under investigation for murder.
Expect yummy mummys, backstabbing and plot twists galore, with more than a nod or two to Desperate Housewives for good measure.
It has an impressive IMDb score of 8.5 out of 10 from almost a quarter of a million viewers and a Rotten Tomatoes critical rating of 89 percent.
The Last of Us
We all know by now that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are fantastic actors and if you've not seen The Last of Us yet, you are missing out.
Beginning after a global pandemic, it follows one survivor who makes it his mission to look after a 14-year-old girl who has the potential to change humanity's devastating fate.
This riff on the zombie genre sees mankind fighting as spore-based, fungal virus that attacks the nervous system - a refreshing departure from the typical undead tropes.
Just like the other shows featured on this list, it has an impressive IMDb rating of 8.5 out of 10 from over 700,000 viewers and a critical rating of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Harry Potter FIRST LOOK:
HBO Max will also be of interest to Harry Potter fans as it will be streaming the new TV series when it is released on Christmas Day.
The platform starts at a competitive price of £4.99 a month for a basic plan with ads (but no new theatrical releases) or a standard plan for £9.99 which has no ads and includes the latest releases.
A premium service is also available for £14.99 a month that includes 4K streaming rather than just HD, as well as up to 100 downloads.
JB Perrette, the President of Global Streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, said: 'After decades of delighting audiences in the UK and Ireland with our remarkable stories and brands, it's a huge thrill to finally bring it all together on HBO Max, and also offer it directly to all consumers.'
