The Block contestants Han and Can were left reeling on Monday night after a sacked builder made a surprise return to the construction site - sparking controversy over so-called 'gross' texts.

Earlier this season, the fiery WA pair stunned viewers by abruptly firing their chippie, Ben, just 24 hours after he helped them secure a perfect score and a win for their rumpus room.

At the time, the duo claimed Ben was simply too expensive, opting instead to keep working with their other builder, Shannon.

But while Ben departed quietly on screen, the fallout behind the scenes was far from over.

When Ben the builder resurfaced this week, joining the show's official team of tradies working across multiple houses, Han and Can were horrified.

'I'm a bit shocked, after the way he spoke to me. The texts that we received, after sending some lovely texts, were quite gross actually,' Han told producers.

However, she refused to elaborate further or share the alleged 'gross' messages.

But Ben wasn't about to let the accusation slide.

Laughing off the claims, he insisted he had nothing to apologise for.

'About a week ago, I got a long-winded text from Hannah apologising and saying they were sorry for how things had gone down and would love me to come back,' he explained.
'I was very amicable in the way I replied.'

He then produced the texts - showing Han had indeed reached out with a glowing message praising Ben and even signing off with 'Love always Han xx.'

In his reply, Ben admitted to feeling 'really disappointed' about being left in the dark, accusing the girls of poor communication.

The feud marks the latest in a string of controversies for Han and Can, who just last week received a brutal critique from host Scott Cam during Kitchen Week.

After discovering their range hood was installed far too low, Scott didn't mince words: 'I've gotta tell ya, if I was a buyer, I couldn't buy this house... if I'm cooking, I'd get hit in the head.'

When Ben the builder resurfaced this week, joining the show's official team of tradies working across multiple houses, Han and Can were horrified.

The pair also came under fire from producers after secretly removing their microphones to make a hush-hush call to Ben when they decided to sack him - prompting accusations of being 'tricky' and 'gutless.'

With tensions still simmering and their house under mounting scrutiny, Han and Can's Block journey is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic in recent memory.

It comes after the controversial couple from WA sacked their 'chippie' earlier this week.

After taking out top honours with their rumpus room on Sunday night, Han and Can shocked the cast and crew with their decision.

Returning to the site to gather his things, Ben was philosophical when asked about his working relationship with Han and Can.

'Bittersweet to be honest. I will miss being here because I like The Block, but to be honest, House Two has definitely taken its toll on me,' he said.
'I kind of wish I was in a different house, but... I might have to go and speak to house one and see if they need another chippie.'

Speaking to a gobsmacked foreman Dan Reilly, Ben revealed that the team had replaced him with local tradesman Shan, as he was 'too expensive'.

The swap did not sit well with Ben, who labelled Han and Can 'gutless' for their actions.
