It is the much-loved cosy BBC crime drama that's been on our television screens for the last 15 years and is currently on its fifth detective.
But while new Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, 58, has finally settled in to life in Saint Marie after taking over from Ralf Little, Death in Paradise bosses have brought in a sassy new sergeant to star alongside him.
And the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal that BBC bosses reckon they are onto a winner after casting up-and-coming actress Catherine Garton, 27, in the role.
The actress and musician impressed bosses while appearing in the Dr Who spin-off series The War Between the Land and Sea.
The five-part mini-series, broadcast last month on BBC One, saw Catherine play Corporal Jane Hart, which she filmed at the end of 2024.
So when she auditioned to become the newest recruit to join the Honore Police Station, bosses already knew what she was capable of and offered her the part.
Catherine then flew out to the Caribbean last April to film her exciting new role.
A source said: 'Catherine was over the moon when bosses called to say she'd got the part. It's a huge role for her and she's very excited for the viewers to see her in action.'
London-born Catherine is engaged to musician Dominic Darmanin, 30, after he proposed to her in 2022. As well as acting she also sings and writes music.
The source added: 'Catherine brings something a little different to the role and the camera just loves her.
'Everyone is very excited as they are certain the fans will love her.
'Death in Paradise has got an army of loyal fans so it was important they got the casting right and with Catherine they believe they've done just that.
'She's certainly going to turn one or two heads on the Island.'
