The One Show viewers branded the BBC 'incompetent' for accidentally broadcasting behind-the-scenes footage from TV set.

The blunder - which involved Alex Jones, 48, and Clara Amfo, 41 - took place ahead of Wednesday's episode.

Although BBC viewers in Scotland first saw local news, it switched to scenes including Alex and Clara taking selfies, as well as general chit-chat.

They also witnessed a wardrobe assistant making adjustments to Clara's vibrant yellow two-piece - while Alex spoke about EastEnders.

The Welsh host said: 'Paul, is there any chance someone could grab my phone?
'You don't need to go down, somebody will be down there already.'

From there, Clara spoke about the advantages of a selfie stick owing to her 'short arm' before she added: 'Well it's all happening today.'

In a further fun twist, this mishap happened to take place on Alex's 49th birthday, which was acknowledged in the show.

One viewer wrote on X: 'A few seconds, fine. Simple mistake. 2½ minutes though. Incompetence springs to mind.'
Another penned: 'Saw that. I did wonder. But they were so well behaved!'
A third commented: 'Instead of the BBC News at Six, viewers in Scotland got an accidental behind-the-scenes at The One Show.'
While a fourth said: 'The fab thing about this is the presenters just seem really nice.'
